Lady Pirates win 3 road games
The Prairie Lady Pirates won 3 road games this past week. On Tuesday, Jan. 2, they traveled to Deary and won 50-37. On Saturday, Jan. 6 they traveled to Genesee and won 70-44. Finally on Monday, Jan. 8, they traveled to Orofino and won 70-22.
At Deary
The Lady Pirates dominated the first quarter at Deary, outscoring the Mustangs 22-5. Prairie scored the first 11 points of the game. Kylie Schumacher won the opening tap Kylie Schumacher handles the ball at Deary.sending the ball to Hailey Hanson who passed to Sage Elven for the game’s first points.
Lexi Schumacher followed with a 3-pointer then Elven, Kylie Schumacher and Lexi Schumacher each scored a basket to make it 11-0. After Deary got in the scoreboard with a 3 at the 4:27 mark, Prairie scored another 11 straight points. Two steals by Elven led to a basket each by Lexi and Kylie Schumacher. Lexi drove for a lay-up, Kylie hit a short bank shot and Lexi hit a 3 off an inbounds feed from Hanson to make it 22-3. Deary scored to finish off the first quarter.
The scoring pace slowed in the second quarter for Prairie as Lexi Schumacher scored 6 and Kylie Schumacher 4 but Prairie still managed to outscore Deary 10-7 to take a 32-12 lead at the half.
Deary opened the second half scoring with a 3-pointer but Prairie responded with a basket each by Kylie Schumacher and Elven. Deary then scored 6 straight to cut the lead to 15 but Prairie then went on their own 6-0 run to finish the quarter up 42-21. Kylie Schumacher scored a putback and Lexi Schumacher scored two baskets.
Kylie Schumacher scored to open the fourth quarter but Deary then started forcing some turnovers and outscored Prairie 4-16 to get within 11 with 25 seconds left. Prairie’s only points in that run came on a basket each from Elven and Alli Geis.
Prairie then scored the final points of the game as Hanson made a long inbounds pass after Deary’s final free throw to Lexi Schumacher who scored a lay-up to make it 50-37.
Lexi Schumacher wound up with 24 points to lead all scorers. Kylie Schumacher added 16 with Elven scoring 8 and Geis 2.
Prairie had a 36-26 advantage on the boards led by Kylie Schumacher who had 10 rebounds. Hanson and Lexi Schumacher added 6 each.
Kylie Schumacher had 4 steals while Elven and Lexi Schumacher had 3 each. Hanson had 6 assists.
Prairie was 25 for 52 from the field, 48%, and 0 for 3 at the line. Deary was 14 for 44 from the field, 32%, and 4 for 12 at the line, 33%.
Of note, all the free throws attempted in the game except 1 came in the fourth quarter. There were no free throws made until the 9th attempt, which came with 3:08 left in the game.
There was no JV game.

At Genesee
It may have been one of Prairie’s best outings of the season as they beat a Genesee team by 26 points that led nearly the entire first half against them in their previous matchup at Cottonwood.
This time Genesee led just 1 time. Lexi Schumacher scored to open the game then Genesee answered with a 3 for their only lead. Hanson scored a free throw to tie it and Geis scored to give Prairie the lead for good with 6:45 left in the first quarter. Sage Elven with the ball at GeneseeLexi Schumacher then scored a 3 to make it 8-3 before Genesee scored again to make it 8-5. Prairie then scored 9 straight points. Kylie Schumacher scored inside. Hanson sank a 3-pointer and Lexi Schumacher scored twice on drives to the hoop. The second came after a steal by Elven. That made it 17-5 with 1:13 left in the quarter.
Genesee scored to make it 17-7 at the end of 1.
Genesee outscored Prairie 2-5 to start the second quarter with all their points coming on free throws while Prairie got a midrange shot from Elven. That cut the lead to 19-12. From that point on Prairie outscored Genesee 17-8 to take a 36-20 lead at the half.
The middle two quarter saw both teams going to the free throw line a lot as Prairie attempted 8 free throws and Genesee 10 in the second quarter while Prairie attempts 14 in the third quarter and Genesee 11.
Prairie started the third quarter with a 3-point play by Kylie Schumacher. Genesee answered with 2 free throws. Lexi Schumacher scored a putback and Genesee answered with a 3. Prairie then scored 7 straight points, with 5 of those coming at the iine. The only basket was converted into a 3-point play by Lexi Schumacher. Hanson made 2 free throws while Sydney Shears and Kylie Schumacher had 1 each.
Genesee then scored a rare 4-point play. Lexi Schumacher then scored Prairie’s next 8 points, 4 free throws and 2 lay-ups. Prairie was up 56-31 at that point. Hanson added a basket and Genesee closed out the third quarter with a basket and a free throw as Prairie led 58-34 after 3.
Prairie got on the brink of invoking a running clock after a basket each by Kylie and Lexi Schumacher made it 64-35 with 5:10 left. Genesee then went on a 2-9 run to make sure the game was played normally to the end.
Prairie scored the final 4 points on a basket each by Lexi Schumacher and Elven.
Lexi Schumacher had a huge scoring night with 35 points. She was also 5 for 5 at the free throw line. Two more players were in double figures as Kylie Schumacher scored 12 and Elven scored 10. Hanson added 8 points while Shears scored 3 and Geis scored 2.
Prairie had a 58-44 advantage on the boards. Kylie Schumacher made it a double-double with 18 rebounds. Elven also had a double-double with 12 rebounds and Geis had 12 rebounds as well.
Elven and Lexi Schumacher had 5 steals each while Kylie Schumacher had 4 as Genesee committed 30 turnovers, 21 via steal.
Elven had 5 assists while Kylie Schumacher had 4 and Hanson had 3.
Prairie was 27 for 83 from the field, 33%, and 13 for 26 at the free throw line, 50%. Genesee was 11 for 54 from the field, 20%, and 17 for 25 at the line, 68%.
Prairie coughed up a 3 point lead in the final 1:10 to lose the JV game 47-48.
Avery Riener got Prairie off to a strong start by hitting a 3 pointer and then adding a lay-up after a steal for a quick 5-0 lead. Genesee then scored 6 straight points to take their first lead.
Two baskets by Aubree Rehder put Prairie back on top but Genesee then scored 7 straight to retake the lead.
They looked to added more but Erica Schlader stole the ball and Rehder scored. Ellie Nuxoll then made 2 free throws to tie it and Rehder added a basket at the buzzer to give Prairie a 15-13 lead.
Genesee outscored Prairie 2-12 to open the second quarter with Nuxoll scoring Prairie’s points on a baseline drive.
Prairie trailed 21-31 at the half.
Prairie opened the third quarter with and 12-2 run that tied the game at 33. Nuxoll and Schlader each scored a basket. After a Genesee basket, Nuxoll converted a 3-point play, Schlader scored a lay-up, Kennedy Riener scored a putback and Aubree Rehder scored to tie it.
Genesee then scored the final 4 points of the third quarter to take a 33-37 lead. They then opened the fourth with a 3-pointer to make it a 7-point lead.
Rehder scored a 3 and then stole the ball and drove for a lay-up to cut the lead to 38-40.
Genesee scored 2 baskets to push the lead back to 6 at 38-44.
Halee Rowland then came off the bench for some quality minutes as she scored a basket. Lillian Rehder then scored a lay-up. Rowland scored on a putback to tie the game at 44-44 with 1:55 left and then converted a 3-point play following a steal by Lillian Rehder that gave Prairie a 47-44 lead with 1:47 left.
Unfortunately those were Prairie’s final points of the game as Genesee scored 2 free throws and a basket in the final 1:07 to pull out the win.
Aubree Rehder led the JVs in scoring with 14 points with Nuxoll also in double figures with 10. Rowland scored 7 while Avery Riener and Schlader each scored 5. Lillian Rehder, Kennedy Riener and Kadence Kalmbach each scored 2.
Prairie had a 44-36 edge on the boards led by Aubree Rehder who had a double-double with 10 rebounds. Nuxoll almost had a double-double with 9 boards.
Schlader, Avery Riener and Aubree Rehder each had 4 steals while Kennedy Riener and Aubree Rehder each had 2 assists.
Prairie was 18 for 70 from the field, 26%, and 9 for 20 at the line, 36%. Genesee was 16 for 36 from the field, 44%, and 13 for 25 at the line, 52%.

At Orofino
Lexi Schumacher had a career high 39 points in the game at Orofino to lead Prairie to a lopsided win.
Elven got things started as she scored after Prairie won the opening tip. Lexi then got on the scoreboard with a 3-pointer for a quick 5-0 lead.
After an Orofino basket Prairie rattled off 9 straight points. Elven and Kylie Schumacher each scored putbacks. Lexi Schumacher scored after a steal by Hanson. Hanson then hit a 3 to make it 14-2.
Orofino then had a little 2-5 spurt with Kylie Schumacher making a pair of free throws against 2 baskets and a free throw by the Maniacs. Prairie then closed out the first quarter with 8 straight points. Kylie scored a putback then Lexi scored 2 straight lay-ups. Elven finished off the quarter with a steal and drive to the hoop to make it 24-7.
Prairie then scored the first 15 points of the second quarter to make it a 23-0 run overall. Kylie Schumacher opened the quarter with a turnaround shot off the glass. Hanson then sank her second 3 of the game and followed with a putback of her own miss. Lexi Schumacher then scored a lay-up and finished off the run with a pair of 3-pointers, both off of inbounds feeds from Hanson.
Lexi Schumacher added 2 more baskets and Ellie Nuxoll finished off the first half scoring with a lay-up for a 45-11 lead.
In the third quarter Lexi Schumacher kept up her onslaught as she scored 14 of Prairie’s 18 points with Elven scoring the other 4. Prairie took a 63-17 lead into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock. Lexi Schumacher added 2 free throws and a lay-up before going to the bench. Nuxoll scored Prairie’s final basket to get to a 69-19 lead. Shears then added a free throw to get to 70. Orofino scored the final 3 points of the game.
Schumacher was 16 for 30 from the field and 4 for 4 at the line for her 39 points. Elven was also in double figures with 10 points. Hanson and Kylie Schumacher scored 8 each. Nuxoll scored 4 and Shears scored 1.
Prairie had a 42-34 edge on the boards. Kylie Schumacher led the team with 12 rebounds while Elven had a double-double with 10 rebounds to go with her 10 points.
Hanson had 6 steals and 6 assists to lead the team in both categories.
Prairie was 29 for 64 from the field, 45%, and 7 for 17 at the line, 41%. Orofino was 9 for 37 from the field, 24%, and 4 for 11 at the line, 36%.
Prairie is now 9-6 overall and 5-2 in league play.
In the JV game Prairie built a big lead then held on to win 19-17 in a 2-quarter game.
Schlader scored off the opening tap but Orofino tied it. Rowland scored on a putback then Orofino scored a free throw. Cash scored a lay-up but Orofino answered. Avery Riener then closed out the first quarter with a basket for an 8-5 Prairie lead.
Orofino scored to open the second quarter then Prairie went on an 8-0 run. Avery Riener made 2 free throws then sank a 3-pointer. Schlader then scored a free throw and stole the ball and scored a lay-up for a 16-7 lead.
Orofino then had one of their varsity players who didn’t play in the first quarter get hot and she nearly brought Orofino back. They scored 8 straight points with her scoring 6. That cut the lead to 16-15 with 1:54 to play.
Schlader made a free throw to break the drought. Cash then pulled down a big defensive rebound with 30 seconds to play that led to a basket by Schlader for a 19-15 lead with 23 seconds left.
Orofino got a lay-up with 5 seconds left but the clock ran out on them before they could score again.
Schlader wound up with 8 points to lead the scoring. Avery Riener scored 7 with Cash and Rowland adding 2 each.
The JVs had a 29-17 rebounding edge led by Ellie Nuxoll with 8. Cash added 6 rebounds.
Schlader had 5 steals and Rowland had the only assist.
Prairie was 7 for 37 from the field, 19%, and 4 for 8 at the line, 50%. Orofino was 8 for 23 from the field, 35%, and 1 for 2 at the line, 50%.
