Patriots boys win twice, girls win 1 of 3
The St. John Bosco boys basketball team put together their first winning streak of the season as they won at Highland 35-27 on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and defeated Genesee 69-64 at Cottonwood on Thursday, Jan. 23. Meanwhile the girls won 1 of their 3 games. They started the week with a 40-32 win at Highland on Tuesday, Jan. 21. On Thursday, Jan. 23 they lost to Genesee 36-61 at Cottonwood. Finally on Friday, Jan. 24, they traveled to Moscow where they lost in double overtime to Logos 50-55. There was a boys game set against the Logos JV but it may be rescheduled.
Girls at Highland
Against Highland the Lady Patriots avenged a 2-point loss to the Huskies from earlier in the season.
Bosco led 11-9 after the first quarter and 20-17 at the half. They outscored the Huskies 13-5 in the third quarter to take a 33-22 lead into the fourth quarter. They then withstood a Highland rally for the 8 point win.
Julia Wassmuth scored 17 points to lead the Patriots. CeCe Remacle added 9 points with Catherine Seubert, Noelle Chmelik and Sarah Waters adding 4 each and Miah Mager scored 2.

Boys at Highland
The Patriots made it a season sweep over the Huskies as they picked up their second win of the season.
The score was tied 4-4 at the end of the first quarter but Highland outscored Bosco 9-15 in the second to take a 13-19 lead at halftime.
Bosco cut into the lead in the third quarter, outscoring Highland 8-4, but still trailed 21-23 heading into the fourth. In the final period the Patriots outscored the Huskies 14-4 as they came from behind to win it.
Cody Weckman led the Patriots in scoring with 12 points. Ignatius Parmentier scored 8, Connor Nuxoll 7, Henry Baldwin 4 and Wyatt Crea and Tommy Rose 2 each.
Weckman had 6 steals and Nuxoll had 9 rebounds.
Bosco also won the JV game 28-10.

Girls at Genesee
The Lady Patriots kept it close in the first half but Genesee pulled away in the second.
Bosco trailed 8-14 after one quarter and 19-25 at the half after an 11-11 second quarter.
Genesee rolled up a 12-26 advantage in the third quarter to take a 31-51 lead into the fourth. They outscored the Patriots 5-10 in the fourth.
Wassmuth led the Patriots with 19 points with Seubert scoring 6, Savannah Perrin 4, Chmelik and Waters 3 each and Remacle. 1.

Boys vs. Genesee
Against Genesee the Patriots picked up their third win of the season.
Genesee jumped out to a 12-24 lead by the end of the first quarter. Bosco answered back by outscoring them 22-8 in the second quarter to take a 34-32 lead at the half.
The Patriots outscored the Bulldogs 20-9 in the third quarter to take a 54-41 lead into the fourth. Genese rallied, outscoring the Patriots 15-23 in the fourth but fell short.
Weckman led the Patriots in scoring with 21 points while Nathan Wassmuth and Rose added 15 points each. Crea scored 7, Nuxoll 6, Baldwin 3 and Simon Hagen 2.S
With the win the Patriots improve to 3-9 in league play and 3-12 overall.
Genesee won the 2-quarter JV game.

Girls at Logos
The girls game at Logos was close all the way through. Catherine Seubert goes for 2 at Logos. Also shown is Noelle Chmelik.
Bosco jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Julia Wassmuth got things started with a steal that led to a lay-up. Seubert scored a putback. Wassmuth scored again and the Miah Mager scored to make it 8-0.
Logos came right back with 6 straight points before Wassmuth ended the first quarter with a basket for a 10-6 lead.
Waters scored a putback to open the second quarter then Logos went on a 0-8 run to take their first lead at 12-14.
Remacle put Bosco back in the lead with a 3-pointer that made it 15-14. Chmelik and Wassmuth each scored to make it 19-14. Logos then scored a 3 right before the buzzer to make it 19-17 at the half.
Logos scored the first 4 points of the third quarter to retake the lead. Perrin then scored to tie it and Wassmuth banked in a 3-pointer to put Bosco back on top. Logos tied it with a 3 but a free throw and a basket by Seubert made it 27-24. Logos made 2 of 4 free throws to cut the lead to 1 at the end of the third quarter.
Logos then scored 2 baskets to retake the lead. A basket by Chmelik cut the lead to 1. A basket by Seubert against 3 free throws by Logos had Bosco down 30-33 with 1:19 left to play.
Wassmuth and Remacle each scored to give Bosco a 34-33 lead with 36 seconds left. A technical foul was called against Bosco for hitting the ball on an inbounds play while the Logos player still had it. Logos made the first of the 2 free throws to tie it but missed the second and that’s how regulation ended.
Logos scored to open the overtime period but Wassmuth made 3 of 4 free throws to put Bosco back on top. A basket by Logos was answered with 2 free throws by Waters.
Another basket by Logos was answered by a lay-up by Seubert. The same thing repeated with Seubert’s basket making it 43-42 with 1:20 left. Logos then scored a basket and a free throw to take a 43-45 lead with 22 seconds left. A putback by Seubert tied it and sent the game to a second overtime.
In the second overtime Logos scored 2 free throws but Seubert answered with a lay-up. Logos then took their biggest lead of the game with a 3-pointer and a basket to make it 47-52. Chmelik made a free throw to cut it to 4 but Logos answered with a free throw. Remacle and Wassmuth each made 1 of 2 free throws to pull within 3 with 15 second left. Bosco got the ball back and was setting up a do or die 3 when Logos stole the ball and scored just before the buzzer to give them the win.
Bosco also had a technical called in the first quarter due to substitution confusion. They wound up with 6 players on the floor. Logos made 3 of the 4 technical foul shots which basically cost the Patriots the win.
Wassmuth led the scoring for the Patriots with 17 points while Seubert scored 14. Remacle scored 6, Chmelik 5, Waters 4 and Perrin and Mager 2 each.
Bosco had a 56-48 edge on the boards led by Seubert and Remacle with 13 each. Chmelik added 9 rebounds.
Wassmuth had 8 steals and Remacle had 3 assists.
Bosco was 18 for 65 from the field, 28%, and 10 for 23 at the line, 43%. Logos was 19 for 59 from the field, 32%, and 13 for 24 at the line, 54%.
The two teams were going to play a couple of quarters of JV after the varsity game but that got called off once the game went to double overtime.
The girls are now 5-9 on the season and 3-7 in league play.
