Patriots have busy week
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots were 2-2 in a busy week of basketball. On Tuesday, Jan. 23, they hosted Deary and lost 20-47. On Thursday, Jan. 25, they played at Highland and won 42-29. On Friday, Jan. 26, they played the home makeup game against Kendrick and lost 24-63. Finally, on Monday, Jan. 29, they hosted the Clarkston JV and won in overtime 54-51.
Meanwhile the boys team were 1-3 on the week. On Tuesday, Jan.23, they hosted Deary and lost 56-63. On Thursday, Jan. 25, they lost at Highland, 34-58. On Friday, Jan. 26, they hosted Kendrick in the makeup of a postponed game and lost 22-78. Finally on Monday, they hosted Logos Online and won 57-45.
Girls vs. Deary
The Lady Patriots were blown out by Deary as they couldn’t score more than 6 points in any quarter. Deary led 2-12 at the end of the first quarter and 8-30 at the half. They led 14-43 after 3 quarters before backing off and allowing the Patriots to outscore them in the fourth quarter.
Julia Wassmuth and Sarah Waters each scored 7 to lead the Patriots in scoring. Vivian Dahlsrud added 4 and Catherine Seubert scored 2.

Boys vs. Deary
The boys games against Deary was much closer than when they played at Deary.
The Patriots trailed just 15-18 at the end of the first quarter and 24-32 at the half. They outscored the Mustangs 20-14 in the third quarter to close within 2 at 44-46 after 3 quarters. Deary outscored them 12-17 in the fourth to pull away for the win.
Levi Wassmuth and Sam Weckman each scored 15 points to lead the Patriots in scoring. Noah Beckman scored 7 while Tommy Rose, Stallone Hoene and Nathan Wassmuth each scored 5. Connor Nuxoll and Cody Weckman added 2 points each.

Girls at Highland
The Lady Patriots got a triple-double from Julia Wassmuth as they beat Highland at Craigmont. 
This was the Huskies home game and Bosco wound up sweeping the season series. Julia Wassmuth goes for a lay-up as Sarah Waters watches.
Highland scored first but Sarah Waters tied it with a putback. Highland scored again but Wassmuth gave Bosco their first lead with a 3-pointer.
Highland answered with a 3-pointer to take back the lead but Waters converted a 3-point play to put Bosco on top for good. A basket by Miah Mager, a free throw by Noelle Chmelik, a free throw by Waters and a corner shot by Wassmuth made it 14-7 for the Patriots.
Highland scored 4 straight to make it 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Bosco started the second quarter with a 7-0 run and held Highland scoreless until the final 15 seconds of the half. Catherine Seubert had a free throw, Vivian Dahlsrud scored 2 baskets and Mager added a basket to make it 21-11 with 31 seconds left in the half.
Highland converted a 3-point play to make it 21-14 at the break.
Highland scored to open the second half then Bosco put together an 11-1 run. Mager started the run with a putback. Chmelik made a free throw and Savannah Perrin scored a 15 foot shot to make it 26-16. Highland scored a free throw then Wassmuth scored 2 baskets and Dahlsrud added another for a 32-17 lead. Highland’s first 2-point basket of the second half was answered with a lay-up following a steal by Wassmuth.
Highland closed out the third quarter with a 3-pointer to make it 33-22.
Perrin opened the fourth quarter scoring then Highland scored a pair of baskets to get their deficit into single digits. Perrin and Wassmuth each scored to push the lead back to 13 at 39-26.
After a Highland 3, Wassmuth scored after stealing the ball and Perrin added a free throw to finish off the game.
Wassmuth had 14 points, 16 rebounds and 10 steals to lead the Patriots in all 3 catefories. Dahlsrud scored 8 while Waters and Mager scored 6 each. Perrin scored 5, Chmelik 2 and Seubert 1.
Bosco had a 50-41 edge on the boards. Waters was also in double figures with 10 rebounds.
Wassmuth also had 5 assists while Waters added 6 steals and 3 assists. Chmelik also had 3 assists.
The Lady Patriots were 17 for 66 from the field, 26%, and 6 for 21 at the line, 29%. Highland was 12 for 46 from the field, 26%, and 2 for 6 at the line, 33%.

Boys at Highland
The Bosco boys stayed in the game with Highland until a 3-14 run in the second quarter turned a 3-point lead into a 14-point lead.
Highland scored the first 4 points of the game but Levi Wassmuth scored 2 free throws and a basket to tie the game at 4-4. Cody Weckman passes to his brother Sam against Highland.
Highland scored 4 straight but Sam Weckman scored to cut the lead to 2. After a Highland free throw, Levi Wassmuth picked up his third foul and sat the rest of the first quarter.
Highland led 6-12 when Conner Nuxoll made 2 free throws to pull Highland within 4 at 8-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Cody Weckman made a free throw to open the second quarter then Highland scored 10 straight points. Nuxoll scored a 3-pointer to break the run but Highland then scored 4 straight to take a 12-26 lead.
The two teams traded baskets with Noah Beckman and Sam Weckman each scoring for Bosco as Highland held a 16-30 halftime lead.
Highland came out strong in the third quarter and scored 20 straight points, holding the Patriots scoreless until Levi Wassmuth made 2 free throws with 3:02 left in the quarter. Levi added another free throw and a basket and Nuxoll made his second 3 of the game but Bosco trailed 24-55 after 3 quarters.
The fourth quarter was played with a running clock and Highland sent in their subs as Bosco outscored them 10-3 in the final quarter to cut the final margin to 24.
Levi Wassmuth led the Patriots in scoring despite sitting over much of the first half with fouls. Sam Weckman scored 9, Nuxoll 8, Stallone Hoene 3, Beckman 2 and Cody Weckman and Nathan Wassmuth 1 each.
Highland dominated the boards 32-55. Nathan Wassmuth had 10 rebounds to lead the Patriots.
Five different Patriots had 2 steals: Hoene, Tommy Rose, Nathan Wassmuth, Levi Wassmuth and Sam Weckman. Cody Weckman had 2 assists.

Girls vs. Kendrick
In the makeup game for the game that was postponed on Jan. 11 due to weather, the Lady Patriots got dominated by the Kendrick Lady Tigers.
Bosco trailed 10-21 at the end of the first quarter and then didn’t score at all in the second quarter as Kendrick took a 10-43 halftime lead.
Kendrick outscored Bosco 8-18 in the third quarter then let up in the running clock fourth quarter as Bosco outscored the Tigers 6-2.
Seubert was the Lady Patriots leading scorer with 6 points. Wassmuth, Mager and Rachel Sonnen scored 4 each while Dahlsrud and Perrin scored 2 each.

Boys vs. Kendrick
The Patriot boys didn’t fare any better than the girls did against Kendrick as they trailed 8-31 after 1 quarter and were also outscored 0-22 in the second quarter.
The Patriots outscored Kendrick 12-7 in the third quarter but were then dominated 2-18 in the running clock fourth quarter.
Levi Wassmuth and Sam Weckman scored 7 points each to lead the Patriots in scoring. Nathan Wassmuth scored 4 while Nuxoll and Cody Weckman scored 2 each.

Girls vs. Clarkston JV

Clarkston got on the board first with a 3-pointer but Wassmuth scored a pair of free throws and Perrin added a basket for a 4-3 lead. That lead lasted for just 16 seconds and turned out to be the only lead for the Patriots during regulation.
Clarkston took the lead with 2 free throws then added a 3-pointer. Dahlsrud scored then Clarkston scored 8 straight points to take a 6-16 lead, their biggest of the game. Dahlsrud and Chmelik each scored to make it 10-16 at the end of the first quarter.
A steal by Mager led to another basket by Chmelik to open the second quarter. After a Clarkston basket, Dahlsrud and Waters each scored to cut the deficit down to just 2 points at 16-18.
The Patriots stayed within 2 to 5 points the rest of the half and wound up trailing 25-28 at the break.
A steal by Wassmuth got them within 2 again after a Clarkston basket. Waters scored to get within 2 again at 20-22. After 2 Clarkston baskets, Wassmuth scored a 3 to get back within 3 points. After another Clarkston basket, Mager scored with 4 seconds left to make it 25-28 at the half.
Bosco trailed by as many as 7 in the third quarter at 27-34 but rallied back within 1 with 6 straight points on 2 baskets by Wassmuth and another by Chmelik. That made it 33-34. After a Clarkston basket, Perrin scored to again cut the deficit to 1. Clarkston scored to take a 35-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
Clarkston scored to open the fourth quarter and from there the teams traded scores as the lead toggled between 3 and 5 points until the final minute. Clarkston scored to take a 42-47 lead with 1:27 left. Wassmuth scored a reverse lay-up with 42 seconds left to cut the deficit to 3 points. With 6 seconds to play, Wassmuth passed to Waters near the top of the key and she sank a 3-point shot that tied the game. Clarkston couldn’t get off a shot in the final seconds and the game went to overtime.
Chmelik made 2 free throws to give Bosco their first lead since the 5 minute mark of the first quarter.
Clarkston came back with 4 points to retake the lead. With 1:40 to play, Perrin scored to tie the game. Perrin then stole the ball which led to the go-ahead basket by Chmelik with 1:20 to play. With 33 seconds left, a defensive rebound by Perrin led to a free throw by Wassmuth that gave Bosco their biggest lead of the game at 54-51. That turned out to be the final score.
Wassmuth had a double double in the game with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Chmelik had one of her biggest scoring games ever with 13 points. Waters scored 9 points with 16 rebounds. Perrin scored 6 and had 10 rebounds. Dahlsrud scored 6 and Mager scored 4.
Bosco had a 56-42 advantage on the boards.
Waters had 5 steals while Wassmuth had 4 steals and 7 assists and Chmelik had 3 steals and 5 assists.
The Patriots were 23 for 71 from the field, 32%, and 6 for 14 at the line, 43%. Clarkston JV was 20 for 66 from the field, 30%, and 7 for 13 at the line, 54%.
Bosco is now 3-4 in league play and 8-6 overall.

Boys vs. Logos Online
The Patriots celebrated 3 seniors prior to their final home game Monday. Stallone Hoene, Levi Wassmuth and Noah Beckman were honored with their families.
Levi Wassmuth goes up for a shot against Logos Online.In the game, Logos Online put up much more of a battle than they did in the Patriots first meeting.  Still, the Patriots never trailed.
Hoene got the scoring started but Logos Online tied it. Levi Wassmuth scored but again the Lions tied it. Beckman then put the Patriots ahead for good with a lay-up at the 4 minute mark. Hoene followed with a hook shot to make it 8-4.
Logos got within 1 at 8-7 but Cody Wekcman made to free throws. Twice more Logos got within 1, each time the Patriots answered with Levi Wassmuth scoring a basket and his brother Nathan Wassmuth scoring a free throw as the Patriot led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Hoene scored a pair of baskets to open the second quarter. After Logos scored, Beckman and Cody Weckman each scored to make it an 8-point lead at 21-13.
Logos got within 4 but 2 free throws by Beckman and a basket by Nathan Wassmuth pushed it back to 8. After a Logos basket, Hoene kicked off a 6-0 run that put the Patriots up by 12. Hoene added another lay-up and Levi Wassmuth scored to make it 31-19.
A Logos free throw made it 31-20 at the half.
Logos Online got no closer than 7 in the third quarter as Levi Wassmuth scored 4 and Hoene and Rose scored 2 each to keep the Patriots up by at least 7 and as many as 12. Bosco led 39-31 heading into the fourth quarter.
Nathan Wasmuth and Cody Weckman each scored to open the fourth quarter. Logos scored 6 straight o pull within 6 at 43-37. Twice more they got within 6 at 45-39 and 47-41 with 3:15 to play.
The Patriots then scored 10 straight points to quash any hopes the Lions had of pulling out the win. Levi Wassmuth started the run with a basket. Cody Weckman scored 2 baskets then Levi added 2 more baskets to give the Patriots a 57-41 lead with 1:12 to play.
Logos Online scored the final 4 points of the game.
Levi Wassmuth had a double-double to lead the Patriots in both scoring and rebounding with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Hone scored 14 while Cody Weckman scored 12. Beckman scored 6, Nathan Wassmuth 5 and Rose 2.
Rebounding was even at 43 each.
Cody Weckman had a near double-double as he led the team with 9 assists.
Levi Wassmuth had 7 steals while Rose had 5.
The Patriots were 25 for 59 from the field, 42%, and 5 for 7 at the line, 71%. Logos Online was 19 for 73 from the field, 26%, and 6 for 10 at the line, 60%.
The Patriots are now 4-12 on the season and 1-8 in league play.
