Pirates win 3 of 4
The Prairie Pirates had a busy week with 4 games in 7 days, winning all 4. They started the week with a 59-53 win over C.V. on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Cottonwood. On Thursday, Feb. 1, they hosted Timberline and won 58-34. On Friday, Feb. 2, they traveled to Genesee and won 65-37. Finally on Monday, Feb. 5, they hosted Grangeville and lost 48-53.
Vs. C.V.
In the game against C.V. the Pirates led by as many as 15 points but had to withstand a C.V. rally that cut the lead to 2 with 30 seconds left to prevail by 6. Riley Shears shoots against C.V.
C.V. scored the first 2 points of the game but Prairie took their first lead on a 3 by Matt Wemhoff. Noah Behler followed with another 3 to make it 6-2. C.V. rallied with 6 straight to retake the lead. A free throw by Lee Forsmann and 2 free throws by Riley Shears put the Pirates back on top.
C.V.’s Landon Schlieper scored to give C..V. what turned out to be their final lead of the game.
Logan Weber scored on a putback to give Prairie back the lead. Phil Swartz then scored on a lay-up and followed with another lay-up on a steal by Forsmann to make it 15-10 at the end of the quarter.
C.V. scored a free throw to open the second quarter then the Pirates scored 9 straight points. Forsmann scored a pair of baskets inside. Schwartz converted a 3-point play and then Forsmann scored again to make it 24-11.
After a basket by Schlieper, Behler and Forsmann each scored to put Prairie up by 15 at 28-13 with 4:05 left in the half. C.V. scored 5 straight to cut the lead to 10.  A lay-up each by Shears and Schwartz made it 32-18. A basket by C.V. made it 32-20 at the half.
Prairie opened the second half with a 3 by Forsmann to again lead by 15.C.V. answered with 5 straight and Prairie then scored a free throw by Wemhoff and a 3 by Shears.
5 straight C.V. points got them within 9 at 39-30. Prairie answered with a lay-up by Schwartz and 2 free throws by Forsmann to lead 43-30. A C.V. free throw made it 43-31 after 3 quarters.
Trenton Lorentz scored to open the fourth quarter then C.V. put together a 10-22 rally to pull within 2 points with 29.3 seconds remaining. Prairie got a basket by Briggs Rambo and 2 baskets each from Forsmann and Behler in that run to stay in the lead.
After C.V. got within 2, Schwartz closed out the game by hitting 4 of 6 free throws to give Prairie their final 6-point margin.
Forsmann scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Schwartz nearly had a double-double as well with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Behler scored 9, Shears 7, Wemhoff 4 and Rambo, Weber and Lorentz 2 each.
Prairie had a 41-30 advantage on the boards.
Forsmann and Wemhoff each had 1 steal and Wemhoff and Schwartz each had 3 assists.
Prairie was 22 for 60 from the field, 37%, and 10 for 18 at the line, 56%. C.V. was 19 for 51 from the field, 37%, and 10 for 17 at the line, 59%.
Prairie also won the JV game 59-35.
Prairie never trailed as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead with Ben Secrest scoring 6 of those points while Collin Ray had a basket and Levi Gehring had 2 free throws.
After a 3-point play by C.V., Nate Forsmann made a basket and Ray hit a 3. A free throw by Forsmann made it 16-3. After a C.V. basket, Max Rehder hit a 3 to give Prairie a 19-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Prairie scored the first 10 points of the second quarter as Ray hit a pair of 3s and Forsmann added a basket. Ray then made 2 free throws to make it 29-5.
Each team scored 8 points the rest of the first half as Prairie took a 37-13 lead into the break. Secrest and Forsmann each had 4 of those points.
Each team scored 14 in the third quarter as Prairie led 51-27 after 3. Jackson Enneking, Ray and Forsmann each scored 4 in the quarter and Kade Quintal scored the other 2 points.
Prairie scored the first 6 points of the fourth quarter to take a 57-27 lead and invoke the running clock mercy rul. Rehder, Secrest and Caden Armbrust each scored 2 in that run. C.V. then outscored Prairie 2-8 the rest of the way with Prairie’s only points coming from Quintal on a drive to the hoop.
Ray scored 17 to lead all scorers. Forsmann scored 13 and Secrest scored 12 on 6 for 7 shooting. Rehder scored 5. Enneking and Quintal scored 4 each while Gehring and Armbrust scored 2 each.
C.V. had a 30-33 edge on the boards. Rehder led the Pirates with 8 rebounds while Forsmann had 7.
Gehring had 6 steals and 3 assists while Enneking, Ray and Rehder also had 3 assists each.
Prairie was 24 for 59 from the field, 41%, and 6 for 10 at the line, 60%. C.V. was 16 for 36 from the field, 44%, and 3 for 7 at the line, 43%.

Vs. Timberline
The Pirates made it a season sweep over the Spartans.
They led 14-8 after one quarter and 30-20 by halftime. They blew out the Spartans in the third quarter, outscoring them 23-4, to take a 53-24 lead into the fourth quarter.
Timberline outscored them 5-10 in the fourth.
Forsmann led in both points and rebounds with 12 points and 14 rebounds. He also had four assists and four steals.
Shears and Schwartz each scored 11 points while Rambo and Weber were also in double figures with 10 each. Lorentz and Nate Forsmann each added 2 points.
There was no JV game.

At Genesee
The Pirates had little trouble beating Genesee this time after having to win at the buzzer when they played at Cottonwood.

Genesee finally scored at the 3:55 mark. Prairie answered with a putback by Weber. After another Genesee basket, Lorentz closed out the first quarter scoring with a basket off an inbounds feed from Schwartz.
Lee Forsmann opened the second quarter scoring with a free throw and Shears followed with a basket. After a Genesee basket, Shears answered with a 3. Genesee made their first 3 of the game then Schwartz made 2 free throws and Weber scored a lay-up to make it 27-9.
Genesee scored 4 straight points but Prairie answered with 7 straight as Shears and Behler each scored a lay-up and Schwartz drained a 3 to make it 34-13. A Genesee 3 at the buzzer made it 34-16 at the half.
Prairie started the second half with a 14-0 run. Rambo scored a basket followed by Behler. Another Rambo basket was followed by a 3 by Lorentz and a 3 by Shears. A basket by Schwartz closed out the run and made it 48-16.
Genesee had a 5-12 run to close within 53-28 with Shears scoring on a 2 and then a 3 for Prairie’s points. Lee Forsmann then made 2 free throws that were answered by 2 free throws from Genesee. A basket by Shears made it 57-30 after 3 quarters.
Genesee scored a pair of baskets to open the fourth quarter then Lee Forsmann made back-to-back 3’s and Weber scored inside to make it 65-34 with 3:55 left and invoke the running clock.
Genesee added a 3 with 3:36 left and nobody scored after that.
Prairie had 4 players in double led by Shears with a season high 17 points. Rambo added 12. Lee Forsmann had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Schwartz added 10 points while Weber scored 6, Lorentz 5 and Behler 4.
Prairie had a 40-35 edge on the boards.
Schwartz had 2 steals and 8 assists while Behler had 2 steals and 4 assists. Wemhoff also had 4 assists.
Prairie was 25 for 53 from the field, 47%, and 5 for 14 at the line, 36%. Genesee was 13 for 53 from the field, 25%, and 6 for 12 at the line, 50%.
Prairie won the JV game 53-23.
Prairie first 4 baskets were all 3-pointers as they took a 12-5 lead. Rehder had 2 of them while Ray and Chase VonBargen each had 1.
After a 3 by Genesee, Nate Forsmann converted a 3-point play and VonBargen hit his second 3 of the game. A basket by Quintal made it 20-8. Genesee closed the first quarter with a 2-6 run with Gehring scoring Prairie’s basket. The Pirates led 22-14 after 1.
The Pirates shut out Genesee in the second quarter, outscoring them 9-0. Forsmann scored 5 on abaskets and 3 free throws. Gehring added 2 free throws and Armbrust added a basket as Prairie led 31-14 at the half.
Prairie outscored the Bulldogs 10-6 in the third quarter. Gehring scored a pair of baskets in the quarter while Forsmann scored a basket and a free throw. Armbrust scored a basket and Enneking added a free throw as Prairie took a 41-20 lead into the final period.
Genesee scored to opened the fourth quarter with a free throw then Prairie scored 8 straight points to make it 49-21. Rehder made a basket, Forsmann converted a 3-point play and Ray sank a 3.
A Genesee putback was answered by a putback by Forsmann. Cole Duclos then closed out the scoring by hitting 2 of 3 free throws with 2.3 second left for the final 30-point margin.
Forsmann had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Rehder and Gehring scored 8 points each. VonBargen and Ray scored 6 each as each hit two 3’s. Armbrust scored 4. Quintal and Duclos scored 2 each and Enneking scored 1.
Prairie had a 41-33 edge on the boards.
Forsmann and Gehrign each had 5 steals and Enneking and Quintal each had 2 assists.

vs. Grangeville
Prairie started well against Grangeville as they led 11-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs cut the margin to just 3 at halftime, 24-21.
By the end of the third quarter Grangeville had tied the game at 37-37. They outscored the Pirates 11-16 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
Lee Forsmann led the Pirates in scoring with 17 points. Behler was also in double figures with 10 points. Weber scored 7, Schwartz 5, Lorentz 4, Shears 3 and Rambo 2.
Prairie is now 8-10 overall and 4-9 in league play.
