Cottonwood City Council meets
The Cottonwood City Council held their February meeting Monday, Feb. 12.
Brett Miller was officially sworn in as he wasn’t at the January meeting when everyone else was sworn in. The council approved a $20,000 expense to fix the bearing in the fan of the street sweeper. They had priced a new replacement similar to their current machine and that came to about $400,000. They might look into getting a vacuum truck to help suck up the sweepings as city works coordinator Pat Enneking said if they just use the sweeper for sweeping it should last a very long time. Using it to suck up the debris leads to wear and tear. In other business the council also approved a 30-day extension on the park pavilion project which would have it being completed by March 8. The hall work was discussed. The carpet is down in the library and flooring in the main portion of the lower level however the restrooms have not yet been addressed. The council is hoping to hold their March meeting in their meeting room in the hall basement. In his police report Terry Cochran said 11 youngsters participated in the hydrant project and he wants to give them recognition soon. The city pumped 2,509,700 gallons of water in January and sold 2,164,200 for a loss of 13.68%. The cold snap led to lots of broken water pipes in the city, none however on the city side of the meters. There were also a couple of frozen meters. In 2023 the city pumped a total of 34,288,600 gallons of water and sold 30,567,110 gallons. This is nearly 6 million fewer gallons pumped than any of the previous 11 years. Kudos to the citizens for conserving water. The 10.45% loss is right in the middle of the previous 11 years. It was reported that Pumptech has ordered everything for well #2 and plans to install by mid-May. In the sewer report Miller reported there is about 100 feet left in the project on East Street. They are on hold until they get the sweeper fixed. They also have a meeting with JUB Engineering next week about the sewer system inflow and infiltration issues. Kristie Holthaus reported the crew is working on consolidating street signs and installing new ones. They also have received the permit from the Idaho Transportation Department for the new crosswalk signal. They are planning and assembly at the Elementary School to let the children know how the system will work. In land and buildings there was an update from Wemhoff Architecture on the park project and the extension change order was discussed. There were two calls last month for the fire department. One was a vehicle roll-over and the other was for a wood stove fire. The meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m. The next regular meeting is set for Monday, March 11 at 7 p.m. |
