| To the Library and Beyond March is a very busy month as we observe American Red Cross Month since 1943, recognizing all the people who make their work possible. We celebrate Music In Our Schools valuing the importance of music to learning. We applaud National Nutrition highlighting the importance of making “informed choices” and developing healthy eating habits. We celebrate Read Across America encouraging everyone to read whenever you can. We observe Women’s History Month “commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history.” We also observe Youth Arts this month to “celebrate visual art education for grades K – 12.” Prairie Community Library volunteers are hoping to spend March busily putting our Library back where it belongs. We thank Frances Conklin, Lynn Danly and Kristin Frisch for volunteering to help shelve books. There are still plenty of opportunities for anyone who wants to help with moving furniture and books from the storage containers to the Community Hall. The week of March 3-9 is very busy as well. The American Library Association Core Interest Group will spend this week discussing topics currently of interest to libraries in America. This is also Read An E-Book Week, especially if you haven’t tried e-books already. This might be a good time to check the books you have and Return Borrowed Books this week. This is also Teen Tech Week encouraging teens, parents, educators and all concerned to “[ensure teens are competent and ethical users of technologies available at libraries.]” Monday, March 4 is also National Grammar Day; the perfect occasion to fill empty time with some musings in that grammar booklet you had in school.
