Lady Pirates lose at Pomeroy The Prairie Lady Pirates lost a high-scoring back and forth game at Pomeroy by a score of 14-18 Wednesday, March 20. Prairie scored first when Clarice Rehder led off the game with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a passed ball. Pomeroy got a walk, single and hit batter in the bottom of the first but Prairie was able to get out of the inning without any runs scoring. In the second inning Prairie scored 6 runs on just 2 hits. Erica Schlader, Makenzie Mizer, Kadence Kalmbach and Halee Rowland all walked to start the inning. Schlader scored on an error and Mizer scored on a passed ball. Rehder singled to center to score Kalmbach. Rowland then scored on a wild pitch. Ivy Walker drew a walk and Rehder then scored on a wild pitch. With 1 out, Kaylie Lockett singled to left to score Walker and make it 7-0. Pomeroy then changed pitchers and got out of the inning. In the bottom of the 2nd, Pomeroy answered with 6 runs of their own on 4 hits and 3 hit batsmen. The final hit of the inning of a 2-run double. Prairie didn’t score in the third and Pomeroy tied it in the bottom of the third on a 1 out double and a pair of wild pitches. Prairie had a 2-out rally in the fourth to retake the lead. Ember Martin reached on a 2-out error and Lockett was hit by a pitch. Grace Uhlenkott reached on an error to load the bases. A passed ball scored Martin and another passed ball when Schlader walked scored Lockett. Pomeroy tied the score at 9 with 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth on 3 hits and a hit batsman. After the hit batsman Martin was put in to pitch. She gave up a single and a walk before getting out of the inning. Prairie had a pair of baserunners in the fifth as Rowland and Rehder each walked, but failed to score. Pomeroy took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth with 6 runs. Martin gave up a single and a walk before getting an out then walked 3 straight batters. Coach Jeff Marting then went back to Lockett as pitcher. She gave up 2 singles and a double before getting out of the inning. Prairie got back within 2 runs in the top of the sixth with 4 runs. Martin, Uhlenkott, Schlader and Mizer all walked and eventually scored. Bailey Key, in for Kalmback, also drew a walk. Pomeroy pushed their lead back to 5 runs with 3 in the bottom of the sixth. They collected 4 hits, a walk and hit batsman to score their 3 runs. Prairie tried to rally in the seventh. Martin hit a 1 out double and scored on a single by Lockett. The next 2 batters were put out though to end the game. Prairie had 4 hits, Lockett had a pair of singles and 2 RBI. Martin had a double and Rehder had a single and an RBI. Prairie drew 15 walks and a hit batsman. Lockett gave up 13 runs on 14 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks and 5 hit batters in 4 2/3 innings.
