Major vandalism occurred over the weekend of Saturday March 2nd and Sunday March 3rd, probably in the late evening or early morning hours, at the Fish Creek day use park and ski parking lot. A large amount of tires and pallets were burnt in a bonfire in the parking lot leaving a significant amount of burnt debris, garbage, nails, and metal cords from the tires behind and causing damage to the asphalt in the parking lot. Repairing this damage to a popular facility will require a significant expenditure of taxpayer dollars. Additionally, the outhouse in the parking lot was also shot multiple times with what appears to be a larger caliber rifle and a 9mm handgun. A substantial amount of damage was done to the outhouse facility to include the door, area around the door and damage to the inside wall of the outhouse where the bullets passed through the door striking the back wall causing significant damage to the facility. The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest is seeking the public’s help with any information pertaining to this incident. If you have any information on this incident please call the Forests’ Public Affairs Officer, Cyrus Forman at 208-935-4273 or email at cyrus.forman@usda.gov. All information will be treated as confidential. Bullet holes on the restroom doors. A bonfire was set on the parking lot damaging the surface. |
