Pirates lose at Kendrick
The Prairie baseball team was held to just 2 hits and 1 run in a 1-10 loss at Kendrick Thursday, April 4. A doubleheader scheduled against Potlatch on Saturday, Collin Ray connects for an RBI single against Kendrick, scoring Noah Behler.April 6 was postponed due to snow on the field.
Phil Schwartz led off the game by drawing a walk but was then forced at second and the next two hitters were put out.
Kendrick scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first on 2 singles, 2 errors and 2 sacrifice flies.
Jake Quintal led off the second inning with a walk. Collin Ray drew a 1 out walk and then a passed ball moved both runners up.
After a second out, Quintal was put out trying to steal home. Coach David Shears claimed the pitcher had balked by not pausing in his delivery but the umpires didn’t agree.
Pitcher Noah Behler pitched a 1-2-3 second inning with 2 groundouts and a called third strike.
Schwartz drew a 1-out walk in the third but was caught stealing and the next batter was put out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the inning Behler hit a batter with 1 out but he was then catcher Cody Kaschmitter threw him out trying to steal. Behler then got out of the inning with a popout to first.
With 1 out in the fourth inning, Behler broke up Kendrick’s no-hitter with a single to right. Quintal drew a walk and with 2 outs, Ray singled to right to score Behler. Devon Poxleitner drew a walks to load the bases but Kendrick then got out of the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth Kendrick added 3 more runs on a walk, an error and 3 singles.
Kendrick changed pitchers in the fifth inning and the new pitcher didn’t allow a baserunner in the final two innings of the game.
Kendrick meanwhile added 2 more runs each inning.They scored twice on 3 hits in the fifth and then twice more in the sixth on a single, walk and 3 errors.
The game was called after 6 innings of play.
Prairie had just 2 hits, a single by Behler and an RBI single by Ray.
Behler gave up 10 runs on 8 hits with 2 walks, 1 hit batsman and 4 strikeouts in 6 innings.
Prairie is now 1-6 on the season and 1-2 in league play.
