Lady Pirates lose at Lapwai
The Prairie Lady Pirates took a 4-0 lead but then struggled as they lost 7-21 at Lapwai Tuesday, April 2.
Ember Martin heads for third with a triple and wound up scoring when the throw from the outfield got away.
A game at Grangeville was cancelled due to wet field conditions and won’t be made up.
Clarise Rehder led off the game with a single to right and stole second. Ivy Walker drew a walk and Prairie pulled off a double steal. Ember Martin walked to load the bases. Kaylie Lockett drew a walk to force home Rehder. Grace Uhlenkott then tripled to left to score all three base runners.
In the bottom of the first Lockett gave up a walk but picked up 2 strikeouts and got out of the inning with a comebacker.
In the second Walker hit a 2-out double but then got put out on the base paths for the third out.
In the bottom of the second things went sour for the Pirates. Lockett gave up 7 hits with 4 errors, a walk and a hit batsman that all led to 10 runs being scored as Lapwai took the lead.
Prairie got one of those runs back in the third inning as Martin led off with a triple to left and then scored when the throw back from the outfield got away. Lapwai got 2 outs then Erica Schlader and Makenzie Mizer both walked but the inning then ended with Prairie still behind 5-10.
Martin went in to pitch in the bottom of the third and gave up 7 runs on just 1 hit with 1 error, 5 walks and a hit batsman.
Down 5-17, Prairie was able to plate 2 runs in the fourth inning. Halee Rowland led off with a single. Kenna Granger beat out an infield hit and Walker singled home Rowland. After a fly ball out, Lockett grounded to short for an out. Lapwai then ended the inning by tagging out Walker between second and third for a double play but Granger had already scored to make it 7-17.
Lockett had come back in to get the final out of the third inning and gave up 4 more runs in the fourth on 2 singles and 3 walks.
In the fifth Uhlenkott reached on an error to lead off the inning. She stole second and went to third on a passed ball. After an out, Chayla Christopher, in for Mizer who took ill, hit a grounder and Uhlenkott was put out trying to score. Bailey Key then singled to left but Christopher stumbled over the bag at second and was tagged out to end the game.
Prairie had 8 hits in the game. Walker had a single and a double and an RBI. Uhlenkott had a triple and 3 RBI. Martin had a triple and scored twice. Rehder, Granger, Key and Rowland each had a single.
Lockett gave up 14 runs on 9 hits with 5 walks, a hit batsman and 5 strikeouts. Martin gave up 7 runs on 1 hit with 5 walks and a hit batsman.
Prairie is now 0-5 on the season and 0-3 in league play.
