Two named to All-State team
The Prairie girls basketball team had two players named to the Idaho Statesman’s 2024 1A-D1 girls all-state basketball team.
Lexi Schumacher was named to the first team while Sage Elven was named to the second team.
State champion Grace dominated the first team selections with 3 players named including the player of the year, while Lapwai’s Samara Powaukee was the other player named.

Lady Pirates win 1 of 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates softball team picked up their first win of the season when they won 16-11 at Lapwai Tuesday, April 9. They then got swept in a doubleheader by Potlatch at Lewiston on Friday, April 12, 2-19 and 4-19.
The game at Lapwai was supposed to be Prairie’s first home game but the field was too soggy and the game was moved to Lapwai.
Kaylie Lockett got through the top of the first inning allowing just 1 base runner on a hit by pitch. The runner advanced to third but third baseman Clarise Rehder caught a line drive for the third out.
Prairie took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Rehder led off with a double to left and Ivy Walker drew a walk. Ember Martin grounded to short and Rehder was forced out at third. Lockett was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Grace Uhlenkott then grounded to third with Walker scoring.
Lapwai tied it in the top of the second. A walk and a hit batsman plus a wild pitch put runners on second and third. A groundout to second scored the run.Lapwai was then able to load the bases with 2 outs, but Locket got out of the inning with a strikeout.
Prairie took back the lead in the bottom of the second. Makenzie Mizer and Kadance Kalmbach both walked and Halee Rowland singled off the third base bag to score Mizer. Rehder then singled to left to score Kalmbach. After an out, Martin doubled to left to scored Rowland. Finally, Rehder scored on a groundout to first by Lockett to give Prairie a 5-1 lead.
Lockett gave up a  2-out double in the top of the third but then got a strikeout to get out of the inning.
Prairie added 3 more runs in the bottom of the third. Erica Schlader led off with a triple. After an out, Kalmbach was hit by a pitch. After a second out, Rehder singled to left to score Schlader. A walk to Walker loaded the bases. Prairie then added two more runs on bases loaded walks to Martin and Lockett to take an 8-1 lead.
Lapwai bounced back with 4 runs in the fourth on just 1 hit. 2 walks, 2 hit batsmen and an error contributed to the scoring as Lapwai cut the lead to 8-5.
In the bottom of the fourth Schlader was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. She stole second and went to third on a passed ball. She scored on Bailey Key’s groundout to short to make it 9-5.
Lapwai added a run in the fifth on a walk, hit batsman, wild pitch and a groundout to make it 9-6.
Prairie extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Walker was walked with 1 out. Martin singled to left and then both runners scored on Lockett’s double to center. Uhlenkott reached on an error. Lockett then scored on a passed ball on strike 3 to Schlader with Uhlenkott moving to third. Uhlenkott then scored on another passed ball. Mizer blooped a single to right but was stranded at first. Prairie now led 13-6.
In the sixth Lapwai scored 3 runs on 2 hit batsmen, a 2-run double and a groundout to second. Lockett hit 2 more batters before getting out of the inning with e groundout to short. That cut the lead to 13-9.
Prairie got those 3 runs back in the bottom of the sixth. Rowland was walked to lead off the inning. Rehder singled to left and Walker singled up the middle to score Rowland. After an out, Lockett reached on an error with Rehder scoring. Prairie loaded the bases as Uhlenkott singled and Mizer reached on a fielder’s choice but they were left on base as the inning ended.
Lapwai tried to rally in the seventh as a 1 out bloop single, a wild pitch and an error scored a run. A hit batsman and a single scored another run. Lockett then ended the game with a strikeout and a groundout to second.
Lockett gave up 11 runs on 5 hits with 5 walks, 10 hit batsmen and 8 strikeouts.
Prairie had 11 hits led by Rehder who had a double and 3 singles and 2 RBI. Martin had a double and a single and 2 RBI. Schlader had a triple. L:ockett had a double and 5 RBI. Walker, Uhlenkott, Mizer and Rowland each had a single and an RBI. Key had an RBI.

The field was still wet at Cottonwood so Prairie’s doubleheader with Potlatch was moved to Lewiston’s Airport Park.
Prairie was the home team for the first game. Potlatch scored two runs on a walk, single and an error plus 4 stolen and 2 passed balls.
Rehder led off the bottom of the first with a walk and stole second. She advanced to third on a passed ball but was stranded there.
Potlatch added 7 runs in the second inning as the first 8 batters all reached base on 2 walks, 3 hits and 2 errors. Two of the outs were at home plate as Prairie twice managed to put out runners trying to score on passed balls. Martin took over as pitcher with 2 outs and a runner on and walked a batter before getting the final out.
Uhlenkott reached on catcher’s interference to lead off the bottom of the second and went to second on a passed ball. She moved to third on a ground out to the pitcher by Schlader and scored on a groundout to second by Mizer. That made the score 1-9.
Martin gave up 2 walks and a run scoring double in the third to make the score 1-10.
Prairie went down in order in the bottom of the third.
Potlatch added 4 more runs in the fourth. 4 3alks, 2 infield singles and an error led to the runs. Lockett was put back in at pitcher with 2 outs and the bases loaded and got out of the inning with a comebacker as she threw the batter out at first.
Prairie again went down in the order in the bottom of the inning.
In the fifth Potlatch added 4 more runs on just 2 hits with 4 walks and 2 hit batsmen.
Schlader led off the bottom of the first with Prairie’s first hit of the game, a single to right. Mizer reached on an error and after 2 outs, Rehder singled to scored Schlader and make the final scored 2-19 as the game was called after 5 innings on the 10 run rule.
The second game started off better for Prairie as Rehder tripled to left to lead off the game. Walker followed with a single up the middle to give Prairie a 1-0 lead.
Martin started as pitcher in the second game and gave up 4 runs in the first inning on 2 walks and 2 singles plus an error.
Mizer had a 1 out single in the second inning but courtesy runner Kenna Granger was then forced out at second and Prairie was unable to score.
Potlatch added 7 runs in the second on 6 hits and 2 walks. Lockett was put in to pitch with 1 out and a runner on third. She walked the first batter she faced then got a groundout to third and a popup to get out of the inning.
Prairie had their best offensive inning of the day in the third. Rehder reached on an error an stole second. Walker then tripled to right to score Rehder. After 2 outs, Uhlenkott beat out an infield hit but Walker had to hold at third. Uhlenkott sotle second and then both runners scored on a single to center by Schlader. That made it 4-11.
Potlatch then scored 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth on 4 hits, 1 walks, 3 hit batsmen and an error.
In the top of the fourth Granger reached on an error with 1 out but was stranded at first.
Potlatch needed 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth to end the game on the 15-run mercy rule. 2 walks, an error and a single scored those 2 runs to end the game.
Martin gave up 11 runs on 8 hits with 4 walks. Lockett gave up 8 runs on 5 hits with 4 walks, 3 hit batsman and 1 strikeout.
Prairie had 6 hits led by Walker who had a triple and a single and 2 RBI. Rehder had a triple. Schlader had a single and 2 RBI. Uhlenkott and Mizer each had a single.
Prairie is now 1-7 in the season and 1-5 in league play.
