Lady Pirates lose 3
The Prairie Lady Pirates softball team lost 3 games this past week. On Tuesday, April 16 they had their first home game and lost to Genesee 3-21 in 3 innings. On Friday, April 19, they hosted C.V. and lost 2-15 in 5 innings. Finally on Monday, April 22, they traveled to Genesee and lost 0-15.
Vs. Genesee
The home opener against Genesee was a good game for Prairie through the first inning, then things fell apart.
Pitcher Kaylie Lockett allowed a single baserunner in the first inning, a hit batsman, and got out of the inning by getting the other 3 batters out on a fly ball to center, a comebacker and a strikeout. Halee Rowland got the chance to pitch in the home game against Genesee.
In the bottom of the first, Prairie scored 2 runs for a 2-0 lead. Clarice Rehder drew a leadoff walk. After and out, Ember Martin was walked. After a second out, Grace Uhlenkott singled to score Rehder. Erica Schlader followed with a single to right to score Martin.
In the second inning, Lockett all of a sudden could not find the strikezone as she walked the bases loaded on 12 pitches. Coach Jeff Martin put Ember Martin in at pitcher and she walked her first batter. She then got a strikeout. Genesee’s leadoff hit then singled to give the Bulldogs the lead at 2-3. After a second out, Martin couldn’t get that third out as she gave up a single and 3 walks. Halee Rowland was then put in to pitch for her first time. She hit her first batter and gave up a walk before getting the elusive third out. Genesee wound up scoring 9 runs in the inning for a 2-9 lead.
Kadence Kalmbach walked to lead off the second inning she moved to second on a passed ball and to third on a groundout to second. Ivy Walker singled to left to score Kalmbach. Martin was hit by a pitch then a strikeout ended the inning.
In the third inning Rowland walked the first two batter before Lockett was brought back in to finish the inning. Another walk and a single led to a run. After an out, a 3-run triple, 2 singles and a walk ensued before a fly ball out to right. 4 straight  singles, 2 walks and a hit batsman followed before a grounder to third got Prairie out of the inning.
Prairie now trailed 3-21. Genesee’s pitcher struck out the side  in the bottom of the third to end the game on the 15-run mercy rule.
Prairie had 3 hits in the game. Uhlenkott, Schlader and Walker each had an RBI single.
Lockett gave up 13 runs on 8 hits with 7 walks and 2 hit batsman with 1 strikeout in 2 innings. Martin gave up 6 runs on 2 hits with 4 walks in 2/3 of an inning. Rowland gave up 2 runs on no hits with 3 walks and a hit batsman in 1/3 of an inning.

Vs. C.V.
In the game against C.V., Prairie was unable to put the ball in play against C.V.’s pitcher. They struck out 15 times in 5 innings while receiving 3 walks and 1 hit batsman.
Ivy Walker goes to the ground to make a catch on a foul pop up in the CV game.It was another good first inning for Prairie pitcher Lockett as she gave up 1 hit but struck out the other 3 C.V. batters in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the first Martin drew a 2-out walk and stole second before the inning ended on another strikeout.
Lockett struck out the leadoff batter in the top of the second but a walk, hit batsman, 2 hits and 3 errors led to 5 C.V. runs.
Prairie went down in order in the bottom of the second.
C.V. added 2 more runs in the third on a walk, an error and a single.
Prairie got on the board in the bottom of the third. Kalmbach walked to lead off the inning. 2 wild pitches and a passed ball led to her scoring Prairie’s first run. After an out, Rehder drew a walk. She stole second and went to third on a passed ball but was stranded.
C.V. scored 3 more in the fourth on 2 hits, a walk and an error.
In the bottom of the inning Prairie added a second run. Uhlenkott was hit by a pitch leading off. She stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.
C.V. added 5 more runs in the fifth as the Rams put together 6 hits with an error.
That gave them a 2-15 lead and they were able to end the game after 5 innings on the 10-run mercy rule.
Prairie had no hits in the game.
Lockett pitched all 5 innings for Prairie allowing 15 runs on 12 hits with 5 strikeouts, 3 walks and 1 hit batsman.

At Genesee
In the return match at Genesee the Lady Pirates were no-hit for the second straight game. This was also the first time they have been shut out this season.
Their only baserunners came in the third inning when Mizer led off with a walk. Kenna Granger went in as a courtesy runner. After an out, Bailey Key drew a walk and Rehder followed with a walk to load the bases with just 1 out. After a strikeout the inning ended when Granger tried to score on a passed ball but the ball bounced right back to the catcher off the backstop and she was able to tag Granger out.
Meanwhile Genesee scored 5 in the first inning off of 4 hits, a walk and an error. They scored 2 in the second inning on 1 hit, 3 walks and a hit batsman. They needed 8 runs in the third inning to end the game on the 15-run mercy rule. Pitcher Lockett got the second out after just 3 runs had scored but could never get the third out. After the second out she walked 2 batters then gave up consecutive home runs to end the game.
Lockett gave up 15 runs on 9 hits with 8 walks, 3 hit batters and 2 strikeouts.
Prairie is now 1-10 on the season and 1-8 in league play.
