Field Day held at Winchester Lake
The Lewis Soil Conservation District hosted their 51st Annual 6th Grade Field Day event at Winchester Lake State Park on Wednesday, May 15th.
The event was attended by  98 students from Kamiah, Highland, St John Bosco, and Prairie school districts. Throughout the day, the students rotated through eight different stations, spending 20 minutes at each.
The stations included "Soils and Geology" instructed by Eileen Rowan of the Idaho Soil and Water Conservation Commission and Michael Cistulli of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), "Take Me Fishing" instructed by Bill Siebold of the Idaho Fish and Game, and assisting were Amelia Patten (NRCS) and LeDena DeGagne of the Lewis County Weed Extension Office, "Fire Control" instructed by Tia Wiese, and DJ Antone of the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL), "Forestry" presented by Chris Gerhart and Dave Luther from IDL, "Air Quality" instructed by Johna Boulafentis of the Nezperce Tribe Air Quality Program, “Fish Science” instructed by Angela Feldman of the Dworshak Fish Hatchery, a "Nature Trail" hike led by LSCD board supervisor Tyler Nelson. "Canoeing" was assisted by Tia Schumacher, Neosha Hubbs, and Joe Coonse of the NRCS, and Klae O’Brien of the University of Idaho Lewis County Extension Office.
Jennifer Bernica of the Farm Services Agency assisted with setup, timekeeping, lunch preparation, and takedown. The LSCD would like to thank the students, teachers, volunteers, instructors, Winchester Lake State Park, Leann Trautman and Roy Carlson of the Winchester Quick Response Unit for making this another successful year.
