Prairie brings home 2 individual and 4 relay state champions
The Prairie track team had 2 individual gold medalists and 4 relays take first place at the State Track Meet at Middleton High School Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18.Sage Elven is a back to back state champion in the discus. Her first throw broke her own school record by 7 feet and put her over 14 feet ahead of second place.
The girls team had their 2 gold medal performances on Friday. Sage Elven broke her school record in the discus by 7 feet as she made it back-to-back state championships with a mark of 142’11” on her first throw of the competition. She also placed 7th in the shot put with a mark of 34’2”.
To finish off the night, the medley relay team of Alli Geis, Aubree Rehder, Kennedy Riener and Sydney Shears won gold with a time of 1:54.99. Shears was no better than third when she got the baton and passed both Victory Charter and Logos to finish in first place.
On Saturday it was the boys’ turn for gold with Trenton Lorentz a part of all 4 gold medal performances. Lorentz was 1st in the 200 with a school record and state meet record time of 22.03 while Dylan Uhlenkott was 3rd in the 200 at 22.74. The 4x200 relay team of Uhlenkott, Noah Geis, Ben Secrest and Lorentz won in school record and state meet record time of 1:30.23. The same 4 runners competed in the 4x100 and won in a school and state meet record time of 43.60. Finally the 4x400 team of Matt Wemhoff, Secrest, Uhlenkott and Lorentz won in a state meet record time of 3:24.17. That was 0.42 seconds off of the school record they set at the Meet of Champions.
Shears broke her own school records in the 800 and 1600. She was 2nd in the 1600 in 5:21.95. That was nearly 8 seconds under her previous record. She was 3rd in the 800 in 2:18.99. That was nearly 3 seconds under her previous record.
Aubree Geis made the final in the 400 meter dash and finished 8th in 1:03.11.
Avery Riener made the finals in the triple jump and finished 7th at 32’9½”. She was in line for a medal until the final jumps.
Nadia Cash made the finals in the long jump as she finished 8th at 15’10½”, a new personal best.
Elizabeth Severns made the finals in the discus and wound up 8th at 106’10”.
Hailey Hanson was 10th in the shot put at 33’4½” and 11th in the discus at 103’11”.
Callie Remacle was 11th in the high jump at 4’8”.
The girls 4x400 relay team of Alli Geis, Avery Riener, Kennedy Riener and Aubree Geis finished 2nd in 4:16.58. The 8 points earned in that race vaulted them into 4th place in the team standings, earning them a team trophy.
The girls had 54 points as a team, just 2 out of third place.
For the boys team Bennie Elven earned a state medal as he finished 4th in the discus at 147’8”. He finished 15th in the shot put at 40’4½”.
Wemhoff was 10th in the 400 in 55.44. He may have run too hard into the strong head wind along the back stretch and it caught up to him late in the race.
Zane Uptmor finished 13th in the 110 hurdles in 17.69.
Lee Forsmann finished 14th in the shot put at 41’5”.
Briggs Rambo finished 16th in the 300 hurdles in 46.56. He was unable to clear the opening height of 10’0” in the pole vault.
Cole Duclos finished 12th in the pole vault at 10’0”.
The boys tied for third in the team standings with 51 points, just 1 point out of second and 10 out of first.
This is the first time we are aware of that a Prairie boys team earned a team trophy at State. And it is definitely the first time both the boys and girls team did so.

Prairie's first running gold medal of the meet came, surprisingly, in the girls medley relay, the final event on Friday. Prairie was third at District  but first at state. The final event of the meet saw the boys 4x400 win another gold medal. At left Matt Wemhoff hands off a lead to Ben Secrest. At right, Dylan Uhlenkott hands off a huge lead to Trenton Lorentz.

Briggs Rambo and Cole Duclos in the pole vault. Duclos cleared opening height of 10' to finish 12th while Rambo was unable to clear the opening height which was equal to his personal best.

Prairie's team and coaches in the Parade of Athletes held Saturday morning prior to the running finals.

The Prairie boys track team tied for third place at the State Track Meet and received a team trophy. This may be Prairie’s first ever team trophy for a boys track team. The Prairie girls track team finished 4th at the State Track Meet and received a trophy. We’re 99.9% sure this is the first time both the girls and boys teams earned team trophies at State.
