Zephyrs win 3 of 4
The Camas Prairie Zephyrs won 3 of their 4 games this past week. On Thursday, June 20, they traveled to Spirit Lake where they lost to the Northern Lakes Mountaineers 2-7. On Saturday, June 22, they hosted St. Maries at Cottonwood and swept them in a doubleheader 13-1 and 15-3. Finally, on Sunday June 23, they hosted the Mountaineers and gained a season split with an 11-10 win.
At Northern Lakes
The Zephyrs sent 3 different pitchers to the mound in the game with each pitching 2 innings.
Ray Holes started on the mound and gave up a pair of runs in the first inning on a hit batter, 2 walks and a bases loaded single.
He got out of another bases loaded jam in the second inning after an error, single and hit batter had loaded the bases with 2 outs.
JT Jackson took over on the mound in the third inning and gave up a run on a single with an error, a walk and ground out. He gave up 3 more runs in the fourth inning on a double, 3 singles and an error.
Noah Behler took over on the mound in the fifth and gave up a run on a double, steal of third and an error on the stolen base attempt.
Meanwhile the Zephyrs were held hitless until the sixth inning. Holes doubled to center with 1 out to break up the no-hitter. Eli Hinds followed with a double to center to score Holes with the Zephyrs first run. Jackson then doubled to right to score Hinds and make the score 2-7.
Behler led off the seventh with a single but the game was ended with a double play and then a ground out.
Holes gave up 2 runs on 2 hits with 2 walks and 2 hit batsmen. Jackson gave up 4 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks. Behler gave up 1 run on 2 hits with a hit batsman.
Hinds and Jackson each had an RBI double while Holes had a double and Behler a single for the Zephyrs 4 hits.

Vs. St. Maries
The Zephyrs dominated the 2 games against St. Maries.
In the opener they scored 4 runs in each of the first 3 innings as they won in 5 innings on the mercy rule.
Jackson started on the mound and pitched the first 2 innings. He set the side down in order in the first inning.
In the bottom of the first Holes led off and was hit by a pitch. Carter Shears singled to right with Holes advancing to third. Jackson then singled up the middle to score Holes. After a pair of outs, with Collin Ray at the plate, a passed ball advanced both runs. A dropped fly ball in right resulted in both Shears and Jackson scoring. Ray then stole second and scored on a double to left by Josh Gardner to make it 4-0.
In the top of the second a single and a walk started the inning. A sacrifice bunt advanced the runners then Jackson got out of the inning with a pair of strikeouts.
Chris Schumacher led off the bottom of the second with a walk on 4 pitches. Holes hit a short pop fly that fell behind the second baseman for a single. Shears reached on an error at third with Schumacher and Holes both scoring. Jackson was hit by a pitch. Tavon Ebert reached on an error at second to load the bases. Behler then singled up the middle to scored Shears and Jackson and make it 8-0.
Thayn Williams took over on the mound in the third inning. He struck out the leadoff hitter then gave up a walk. After another strikeout, he gave up 2 walks to load the bases. St. Maries then scored their only run of the game on a wild pitch. Williams then ended the inning with a strikeout.
In the bottom of the third Williams led off with a walk and stole second. After an out, Shears reached on an error by the left fielder with Williams scoring on the play. Jackson walked. Shears advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored on a balk by the pitcher. Ebert walked and then Behler was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a second out, Gardner walked to score Jackson. Hayden Davidson, who had come in as a courtesy runner for Ebert, the catcher, scored on a wild pitch to make it 12-1.
Williams struck out the side in the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth Holes hit a 1-out single to left. He advanced to second on a ground out and scored on a triple by Jackson to make it 13-1.
In the fifth, Williams gave up a 1-out triple then struck out the next 2 hitters to end the game.
Jackson pitched 2 innings and allowed no runs on 1 hit with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. Williams pitched 3 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks.
The Zephyrs had 7 hits led by Jackson who had a triple and a single and 2 RBI. Holes had a pair of singles. Gardner had a double and 2 RBI. Behler and Shears each had a single and 2 RBI.
The second game also went just 5 innings as the Zephyrs again won on the mercy rule.
The Zephyrs scored the first run of the game after there were 2 outs in the first. Jackson double to right and Hinds followed with a double to center to score Jackson.
Hinds started on the mound for the Zephyrs and walked the bases loaded to start the bottom of the first. Behler then went in to pitch. After a strikeout, St. Maries scored on a passed ball before a second strikeout was recorded. An error allowed St. Maries to take their first lead of the day at 1-2.
The Zephyrs started the second inning with Behler being hit by a pitch, Ray beating out a bunt single and Levi McElroy being hit by a pitch to load the bases. 3 straight strikeouts ended the inning with no one scoring.
Behler walked the leadoff hitter in the second before getting 3 straight outs.
The Zephyrs bats then came to life in the top of the third. Jackson led off with a single up the middle. After a strikeout, Jackson stole second. He then scored when Ebert singled to left. Behler drew a walk and stole second. Ray sacrificed with Williams, who was courtesy running for Ebert, scoring to give the Zephyrs the lead. An error on the play allowed Ray to reach first. Behler then scored on a passed ball. McElroy singled to right. Davidson, who went in to pinch run for Ray, wound up scoring on an error to make it 5-2. Holes singled to left and Shears was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jackson then hit a grand slam homer to center to put the Zephyrs up 9-2.
Talum Brown went to the mound to start the third inning. He gave up a single and a double as St. Maries scored a run to make it 9-3.
The Zephyrs added 4 more runs in the top of the fourth. Ebert was hit by a pitch and Williams went in to courtesy run. Williams stole second and went to third on an error on the play. Behler then singled to right to score Williams. Behler stole second and then advanced to third on a fly ball out to right by Davidson. McElroy was hit by a pitch and stole second. Brown grounded out to first with Behler scoring to make it 11-3. McElroy then stole home to make it 12-3. Holes doubled to right, advanced to third on a wild pitch then scored when Shears reached on an error by the third baseman. That made it 13-3.
Brown struck out the side in the bottom of the fourth.
Ebert led off the fifth with a double to left and advanced to third on an error on the play. Evert then scored on a wild pitch. After a second out, McElroy walked and Brown singled up the middle. Holes singled up the middle to score McElroy and make it 15-3.
An error started the bottom of the fifth but a double play grounder to short cleared the bases. Another groundout ended the game.
Hinds gave up 2 runs on 3 walks without getting an out. Behler gave up nor runs with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk in 2 innings. Brown gave up 1 run on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts in 3 innings.
The Zephyrs pounded out 14 hits led by Jackson who had a homer, a double and 2 singles with 4 RBI. Holes had a double and 2 singles and an RBI. Ebert had a double and a single and an RBI. Hinds had a double and an RBI. Behler, Ray and Brown each had a single and an RBI while McElroy had a single.

Vs. Northern Lakes
In the home game against Northern Lakes the Zephyrs built a big early lead then withstood a late Mountaineer rally to hold on for a 1-run win.
Behler started on the mound and gave up a leadoff double before striking out the next 2 hitters.
Holes led off the bottom of the first with a single to left but was put out trying to stretch it to a double. Shears and Jackson both walked. After a second out, Behler singled to left to score Shears and give the Zephyrs a 1-0 lead.
Northern Lakes tied it in the second with a 2-out rally. A walk, stolen base and a single scored the tying run.
In the bottom of the second Gardner, McElroy and Schumacher all walked to load the bases. Northern Lakes changed pitchers and Holes singled to center to score Gardner. After an out, Jackson walked to score McElroy. After a second out, Behler singled to right to score Schumacher and Shears scored on an error by the right fielder to make it 5-1. Williams went in as a courtesy runner for Behler and he and Jackson pulled off a double steal with Jackson scoring from third to make it 6-1.
Behler hit the leadoff batter in the third but then got 2 infield popups and a fly ball out to right to get out of the inning.
After a leadoff strikeout in the bottom of the third, McElroy, Schumacher and Holes each walked to load the bases. Northen Lakes changed pitchers and got a strikeout. A balk scored Schumacher and then Jackson was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. Ebert doubled to center to score all 3 baserunners and give the Zephyrs a 10-1 lead.
In the top of the fourth a walk, single and walk loaded the bases. An infield fly recorded the first out. A run then scored on a groundout to third for a force at third. A single reloaded the bases but Behler then got out of the inning with a grounder to second.
The Zephyrs started the fourth with a walk by Ray and a single by Gardner but a strikeout and a double play kept them from scoring.
In the fifth Behler gave up a pair of singles that scored a run. A couple of errors loaded the bases but a fly out and a strikeout ended the inning with the Zephyrs still up 10-3.
The Zephyrs went down in order in the bottom of the fifth.
In the sixth Behler got an out then loaded the bases with a walk, hit batsman and another walk. A single to center then scored 2 runs. Jackson went in to pitch and gave up a single and a double that scored 2 more runs. A line out to short ended the inning with the Zephyrs up 10-7.
In the bottom of the sixth Behler and Ray each walked with 1 out. After a second out, McElroy walked to load the bases. Brown walked to score Behler for what turned out to be the winning run as it gave the Zephyrs an 11-7 lead.
Two errors started the seventh inning for the Mountaineers. A run then scored on a groundout. A single followed with the baserunner going to third. Another groundout scored the runner from third and cut the lead to 11-10. A strikeout then ended the game.
Behler pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed 7 runs on 8 hits with 4 strikeouts, 5 walks and 2 hit batters. Jackson pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed 3 unearned runs on 3 hits with 1 huge strikeout.
The Zephyrs had 6 hits led by Behler who had 2 singles and 2 RBI. Holes had 2 singles and 1 RBI. Ebert had a double and 3 RBI. Gardner had a single.
The Zephyrs are now 7-7-1 on the season. They now have a bit of a break in the schedule as their next games are a doubleheader at Moscow on Tuesday, July 2.
