To the Library and Beyond The volunteers at Prairie Community Library welcome you back to our refurbished space. Please plan to join us Thursday, July 18 for our Grand Re-Opening. We’ve recently received some quality books and look forward to telling you about them when we get them on the shelf. The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library dedicate July to ensuring that all Library volunteers are aware of how much they are appreciated. "Great acts are made up of small deeds." July is also American Artist Appreciation Month. Historically, Sunday, July 14 is Bastille Day in France; on that day in 1789, people of Paris stormed the Bastille. Monday, July 15 is National Give Something Away Day; if you have already given everything away, it is also National Be A Dork Day celebrating “the dork in all of us.” Tuesday, July 16 is Guinea Pig Appreciation Day and Hot Dog Night, but there is no need to feed your Guinea Pig hotdogs; it is also National Corn Fritters Day and your Guinea Pig probably shouldn’t be eating those, either. Wednesday, July 17 is World Emoji Day or National Peach Ice Cream Day, whichever you prefer; if you make that peach ice cream, please invite me over! Thursday, July 18 is World Listening Day and Nelson Mandela Day, inviting us to make a difference in our communities. Friday, July 19 is National Words With Friends Day. Saturday, July 20 is “Elias” Name-day as well Moon Day, the 55th anniversary of men walking on the moon. In 2023 Prairie Community librarians loaned 2,171 items; 68 percent or 1,484 of those items were for children. The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community are committed to the purpose of serving our communities. We also aspire to the value of integrity and actively pursuing whatever course provides the greatest degree of integrity. “Volunteering helps us celebrate our gifts by giving something back.” Many thanks to all the generous friends who have donated your time and treasure to your Library. |
