Local hospitals receive quality based accreditation from DNV
St. Mary’s Health and Clearwater Valley
Health are proud to announce their successful completion of their
Quality and Safety based reaccreditation survey awarded by DNV. By
earning reaccreditation, SMH and CVH have demonstrated that they meet
or exceed patient safety standards (Conditions of Participation) set
forth by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. DNV’s
accreditation program is the only one to integrate the ISO 9001 Quality
Management System, a quality management standard ideally suited to
complex, people-powered organizations, with the Medicare Conditions of
Participation. “The DNV accreditation program is consistent with our long-term commitment to quality care and patient safety,” says Lenne Bonner, CEO of St. Mary’s Health and Clearwater Valley Health. “DNV is dedicated to ensuring our hospitals are performing at their highest levels every day. As Critical Access Hospitals we have needs that differ from larger, acute care hospitals, and we appreciate that DNV is able to address the specific regulations which govern critical access hospitals.” “Many hospitals hold accreditation status from at least one of the following accrediting agencies: Det Norske Veritas, Inc. (DNV), Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), and The Joint Commission.” says Alyssa Adams, Director of Quality, at St. Mary’s Health & Clearwater Valley Health. “In 2021, we made the decision to be accredited through DNV because of their focus on collaboration, continual improvement, and education. DNV aligns with our vision at SMH and CVH to become the leader in rural health care,and emphasizes our values of safety, compassion and engagement. Accreditation delivers improved patient safety and quality of care, identification of areas for improvement, and improved staff satisfaction and motivation.” DNV’s accreditation program, called NIAHO (National Integrated Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), involves annual hospital surveys and encourages hospitals to openly share information across departments and to discover improvements in clinical workflows and safety protocols. ISO 9001 and NIAHO are the guidelines followed to receive accreditation and ensure all the requirements with Medicare Conditions of Participation are met. “DNV’s accreditation requirements provide healthcare organizations with a clear framework for the improvement of patient safety and quality of care in a language that healthcare workers intuitively understand, which leads to sustainable excellence,” says Adams. “We are excited to have received this reaccreditation and look forward to continuing provide safe, quality care to our patients,” says Bonner.
