To the Library and Beyond Joan has a gift for finding interesting books. This week she gives us another nonfiction book, “The Story Of America In Pictures,” by Alan C. Collins. Published in 1962, this book presents history of America beginning in 1000 AD in sites “all over America”; it covers the discovery of America through the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, several economic recessions, World Wars I & II, the Korean War, the statehood of Alaska and Hawaii, and the election of President Kennedy. The author shares his esteem for American history with tantalizing photos and other pictures on almost every page accompanied by helpful narratives. As Library volunteers may ponder financial policies, we may also promote Romance Awareness Month and the romance novels that “celebrate love stories and their significance in fostering empathy, diversity, and empowerment.” Sunday 18 August is Bad Poetry Day for those of us who are poor poets. Wednesday 21 August is the first day of the Idaho County Fair this year as well as Poet’s Day for all who enjoy that genre. Write a poem about the “Sweet, sweet times at the Idaho County Fair.” In 2020 volunteers added 518 items to the Prairie Community Library collection; in 2019 volunteers welcomed 2,349 patrons and other friends. The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library aspire to sustain a continual conversation about the organization’s direction and priorities. “Volunteering brings fun into our lives and helps us learn new things.” Send your volunteer message to < cottonwoodlib@gmail.com >. “Goodness is the only investment that never fails.” Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service. Thank you all! | COTTONWOOD
