There are 18 players turned out for the Prairie High School football team this season led by 6 seniors. Those 6 seniors are Dylan Uhlenkott, Briggs Rambo, Matt Wemhoff, Jake Quintal, Carter Shears and Peter Remacle. Uhlenkott, Wemhoff, Quintal and Shears were starters on last year’s team while Rambo returns to the team for the first time since his freshman season. Remacle will see playing time in the lines. Juniors are Levi Gehring, Phil Schwartz, Levi McElroy, Chris Schumacher and newcomer Max Rehder. Sophomores are Lane Mader, Ashton Martin, Oliver Kaufman-van Houten and Kade Quintal. Freshmen are Zach Schumacher, Trajan Elven and Malachi Graham-Pile. Head coach Ryan Hasselstrom returns to the sidelines after a 2-year absence. Assistant coach Teel Bruner returns after a 4 year absence. Matt Elven also returns as an assistant coach after a 3-year absence. The 1A-D1 classification Prairie has been a part of for several years has been renamed the 2A classification. There has been a change in league membership this year making the league much tougher. Returning state playoff teams are Logos, who won the league last year, Kamiah and Potlatch. Lapwai, C.V. and Troy round out the league. Prairie’s first game will be this Friday at 1-A Deary at 7 p.m. They will then Valley from Hazelton on Friday, Sept. 6 at 5:30 p.m. pacific time. Their first home game is also their first league game and will be against Lapwai on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. Homecoming will be the following week against Kamiah.
