Firefighters respond to trestle, field fires On Aug 28 at 11:51 Cottonwood Rural Fire Department received a request to respond to Fenn Road and Highway 95 for a rail road trestle on fire. The trestle was outside of the district, however, it's location being next to the district line, the high wind and size of the fire necessitated the need for the district to extinguish the fire. Upon arrival it was identified that the trestle was fully involved, and that Idaho Department of Lands was also requested to respond. Cottonwood Rural Fire Department (CRFD) began initial attack on the trestle utilizing water and firefighting foam to help extinguish the fire. CRFD tenders as well as Cottonwood Highway District provided water supply for the efforts. Idaho County Sheriff's Office and Cottonwood Police Department provided traffic control due to the limited visibility from the fire. Idaho Department of Lands responded with three wildland engines and took over the fire. As the structure was deemed unsafe and damaged from the fire, Fenn Highway District offered a backhoe to remove the portion of the structure that was over the roadway allowing Fenn Road to be re opened. Cause of the fire was determined to be a field burn that had jumped the containment lines and spread to the trestle due to high winds. *********** On August 29 at 12:35 Cottonwood Rural Fire Department and Idaho Department of Lands were paged to respond to Highway 95 and Windy Loop Road, North of Cottonwood, for a fire alongside the highway.
