Lady Pirates win season opener

SCHEDULE FOR 2024
The Prairie Lady Pirates opened their season with a 4-set win over Logos at Cottonwood Thursday, August 29. The set scores were 25-15, 26-24, 23-25 and 27-25. The match didn’t start well as Prairie fell behind 0-4 before scoring on a missed serve. An ace by Kylie Schumacher and a kill by Lexi Schumacher cut the deficit to 3-4. Logos pushed the lead back to 3-7 before missing a serve. Hailey Hanson then turned the game around at the service line. She served 7 straight points as Prairie took an 11-7 lead. She had 2 aces while Leix Schumacher had 3 kills and Ellie Nuxoll and Sydney Shears each added a kill. After a trade of sideouts, Mia Anderson served an ace for a 13-8 lead. After another trade of sideouts, Lexi Schumacher served Prairie to an 18-9 lead. Nuxoll and Kylie Schumacher each had a block and a kill in the run. The rest of the game was mostly sideouts with only 3 points scored on serve. Shears got the game winning kill off a set from Tamden Pecarovich. The second game saw the two teams play pretty much even until it was 10-12 after a Kylie Schumacher kill. Logos then scored the next 5 points to take a 10-17 lead. Prairie still trailed 14-20 when Lexi Schumacher scored a sideout kill. Hanson then served Prairie back within 2 points. She had an ace while Lexi Schumacher added 2 more kills to make it 18-20. After trading sideouts, Anderson served an ace to cut the deficit to 1. After 5 straight sideouts, Logos was at game point at 22-24. Avery Riener scored a sideout kill to send Pecarovich to the service line. An ace tied the game and then Kylie Schumacher smashed a spike down to get to game point for Prairie and then scored on a block for the game winner. In game 3 Pecarovich served 3 aces to start the game. Logos came back though to take a 7-13 lead. Anderson scored a sideout kill to put Kaylie Lockett on the service line. Aubree Rehder scored a kill and Lockett followed with 2 aces. A kill by Hanson cut the deficit to 12-13. Prairie couldn’t get back in the lead though until a service run by Hanson. Prairie was down 14-17 when Hanson blocked a spike. She took over at the service line and Lexi Schumacher scored a pair of kills to tie the score. After an ace by Hanson, Lexi scored another 2 kills for a 20-17 lead. Prairie was unable to hold the lead though and Logos wound up pulling out the win by outscoring the Pirates 3-8 the rest of the game. Pecarovich served Prairie to a 6-0 lead in the fourth game. After a sideout kill by Kylie Schumacher to open the game, Pecarovich served 3 aces and Kylie added 2 more kills. Prairie lead 13-5 after 2 aces by Anderson and a block by Nuxoll and a kill by Lexi Schumacher. Logos then started to rally back as they cut the Prairie lead to 14-13 and 17-16. After a sideout they served an ace to tie it. After a trade of sideouts they took their first lead of the game at 18-20. They led 20-233 when Lexi Schumacher and Nuxoll each scored a kill to tie it. After a Logos sideout and an ace the Knights were at game point at 22-24. A block by Nuxoll and a kill by Kylie Schumacher tied it again at 24-24. A tip by Logos gave them a third game point chance. Hanson scored on a free ball to tie it and then Kylie Schumacher scored a pair of kills to give Prairie the match. For the match Lexi Schumacher had 24 kills and 1 assist. Kylie Schumacher had 17 kills including 2 blocks plus 1 ace. Nuxoll had 9 kills which included 4 blocks. Shears had 9 kills and 6 assists. Hanson had 5 kills including a block plus 5 aces. Anderson had 2 kills, 21 assists and 3 aces. Rehder had 2 kills and 1 assist. Riener had 2 kills. Sierra Oliver had 1 kill. Pecarovich had 29 assists and 9 aces. Lockett had 2 aces. Prairie is now 1-0 both overall and in league play. The JV team won all three of their games by scores of 25-16, 25-13, 15-5. By contrast the JV team dominated Logos in their games. Faith Cash got Prairie off to a good start serving them to a 4-0 lead with 3 aces and a kill be Avery Kehler. After 2 points by Logos, Halee Rowland served and ace and Kehler added a kill for a 7-2 lead. The next serving run came from Erica Schlader who served Prairie from a 10-4 lead to a 15-4 lead. She had 2 aces while Beka Schumacher, Nadia Cash and Macie Uhlenkott each added a kill. From that point on Prairie was outscored 10-12 but defensively they kept Logos from scoring more than 3 points in a row as the Knights never got closer than 7 at 23-16. They then missed a serve and Nadia Cash scored the game-winning kill. Logos took their first lead of the match to open the second game but Prairie answered back when a kill by Rowland made it 3-2. Rowland then served 3 aces and Faith Cash added a second touch kill for a 7-2 lead. Logos answered back with a 6 straight points to retake the lead. They took their biggest lead at 10-12. A sideout followed and Schumacher served Prairie into the lead for good. She had an ace and Kehler and Rowland each added a kill to make it 14-12. After a Logos sideout, Prairie came back with a sideout and Faith Cash then served out the game. She had 6 aces with Schlader adding 2 kills and Faith Cash added another. She served an ace for the game-winning point. Faith Cash serve 2 aces to give Prairie a 2-0 lead in the third game. Logos scored a sideout but Kylee Riggers scored a kill to send Maggie Nuxoll to the service line for an ace. A kill each by Faith Cash and Kehler put Prairie up 6-2. After a sideout, another kill by Kehler sent Schlader to the service line. Schlader served Prairie to a 13-3 lead with 4 aces plus a kill each by Schlader and Rowland. After 2 Logos points, they missed a serve and Schumacher scored the match ending kill. Lady Pirates at Lewiston Tournament The Prairie Lady Pirates will be at the Judy Fong Invitational Volleyball Tournament at Lewiston High School this Saturday, Sept. 7. They will be in Pool D along with Moscow, Troy and Timberline. Pool play starts at 8 a.m. with Prairie against Moscow. Prairie then gets two matches off before playing Troy. They then play Timberline in the next match. Matches will be best 2 of 3 with the first two sets to 25 with a cap of 28 and the third, if necessary to 15 with a camp of 18. The top two teams from each pool are seeded into he Gold Bracket while the bottom two teams are seeded into the Silver Bracket. The brackets will be single elimination to determine a bracket champion. Admission to the tournament is $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Children under 6 will be admitted free of charge. There will be concessions available as well as a limited supply of tournament t-shirts. Hailey Hanson had a big serving run in the first game that helped Prairie to a 10-point win. Aubree Rehder sends the ball over the net as setter Tamden Pecarovich looks on.
