Lady Pirates lose to Potlatch, win Silver Bracket at Lewiston Tournament

The Prairie Lady Pirates lost a league match to Potlatch 25-23, 21-25, 17-25, 23-25 at Cottonwood Thursday, Sept. 5 and then won the Silver Bracket at the Lewiston Tournament Saturday, Sept. 7. Vs. Potlatch In the opening game
against Potlatch, Prairie fell behind 1-5 and 2-8. They were still
behind 5-10 when Potlatch bricked a serve. Sierra Oliver jump served a
pair of aces and Kylie Schumacher added a kill to cut the deficit to
9-10. Prairie again fell behind by as many as 6 at 10-16. A kill by Hailey Hanson and 2 by Lexi Schumacher cut that deficit in half at 13-16. After 5 straight sideouts, Lexi Schumacher scored a kill and then went to the service line. 3 aces and a block by Ellie Nuxoll later and Prairie had a 20-19 lead. After 5 more sideouts, Potlatch scored on served for a 22-23 lead. Hanson scored a sideout kill and then Kaylie Lockett served and ace to get to game point. Hanson then slammed down a ball on first touch at the net to give Prairie the game by 2 points. In the second game they fell behind 0-3 and 3-7 but then came back to take a 12-11 lead on an ace by Oliver. Potlatch answered with 6 straight points and Prairie never got closer than 3 the rest of the game. In the third game Potlatch again took an early 1-4 lead. Prairie tied it at 4 after an ace by Hanson and a kill by Lexi Schumacher. Potlatch again took the lead by Prairie tied it at 8 after a jump serve ace by Lexi Schumacher. They tied it again at 11 and 12 but couldn’t take the lead. After a kill by Hanson made it 15-16, Potlatch took control and outscored Prairie 2-9 the rest of the game to take a 1 game to 2 lead. Prairie fell behind 0-6 in the fourth game and were down 3-9 when the rallied. With Lockett serving 4 straight aces and Lexi Schumacher adding 2 kills, Prairie took their first lead of the set at 10-9. Potlatch answered with 5 straight points to retake control. Prairie then rallied back to take a 19-18 lead after a kill and a block by Hanson. Potlatch scored 2 straight but Prairie answered with 3 straight on a missed Potlatch serve, a smashing spike by Lexi Schumacher and a kill by Hanson for a 22-20 lead. Potlatch answered with 4 straight points to get to match point. Hanson scored a kill to make it 23-24 but Potlatch then scored the match winning kill. Hanson had 15 kills including 4 blocks and 3 aces. Lexi Schumacher had 14 kills, 2 assists and 4 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 10 kills. Nuxoll had 6 kills, including 2 blocks and an assist. Tamden Pecarovich had 2 kills, 19 assists and 2 aces. Sydney Shears had 2 kills and 2 assists. Avery Riener had 1 kill and 3 assists. Mia Anderson had 11 assists and 2 aces. Oliver had 3 aces. Prairie is now 1-1 on the season and in league play. The JV lost in 3 games to the Loggers 20-25, 25-21, 9-15. The first game saw Prairie fall behind early and they were never able to take the lead. They got within 1 at 9-10 and then fell behind 12-21. They rallied back with Erica Schlader serving 2 aces and setting up Beka Schumacher for a kill to cut the deficit to 4. However Potlatch was able to hold on to win by 5. A bad serve by Potlatch and a kill by Halee Rowland gave Prairie a 2-0 lead to start the second game. After a sideout, Schlader scored a kill and Rowland served an ace to make it 4-1. Potlatch got back within 1 at 5-4 but 2 kills by Schumacher and an ace by Schlader made it 8-4. Potlatch rallied back to take a 9-11 lead and the set was played close from then until it was 18-19. At that point Schumacher scored a sideout kill and Schlader went to the service line. 2 kills by Schumacher and an ace by Schlader made it 22-19. After a pair of Potlatch points, Schumacher scored another sideout kill. Nadia Cash then served 2 aces to give Prairie the game. In the decisive third game Prairie got off to a tough start as they fell behind 0-3 and 2-7. They were able to rally back within 1 at 8-9 after a couple of aces by Schlader but Potlatch outscored them 1-6 the rest of the way to win the match. The C team managed to pull out the only match win of the night for Prairie as they beat Potlatch 25-10, 25-14. Lewiston Tournament The Lady Pirates didn’t
fare very well in pool play at Lewiston losing to Moscow and Genesee.
However in the Silver Bracket for the teams that finished 3rd and 4th in pool play, they came out as the winners as they defeated Clarkston, Logos and the Lewiston JV.The tournament had a team drop out at the last minute and Prairie was placed with Moscow and Genesee in a 3-team pool where they played best 3 of 5 while the three 4-team pools each played best 2 of 3. Prairie lost their first match in 3 straight to Moscow, 17-25, 18-25 and 20-25. They didn’t fare any better in the second match against Genesee as the Bulldogs also won in 3 sets, 16-25, 14-25, 17-25. Lexi Schumacher had 10 kills in that match. Hanson had 6 kills, including 2 blocks plus 1 assist and 2 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 3 kills. Nuxoll had 2 kills. Shears had 2 kills, including 1 block, plus 2 assists. Anderson had 1 kill and 5 assists. Pecarovich had 11 assists and 4 aces. Aubree Rehder had 3 aces. Bracket play was all best of 3 matches. Prairie opened against Clarkston, who had finished 4th in their pool. The two teams split the first 2 points then Lockett served Prairie to a 6-1 lead with 2 aces plus 2 kills by Lexi Schumacher. Clarkston was able to cut the lead to 9-8 before missing a serve. Lexi Schumacher then served 8 straight points. She had 3 jump serve aces while Kylie Schumacher scored 4 kills for an 18-8 lead. Clarkston got back within 19-13 before a kill by Hanson set Pecarovich to the service line where she served out the game. Hanson had a pair of kills. Pecarovich had 2 aces and Shears scored the game-winning kill. In the second game Anderson served 2 aces and Lexi Schumacher added a kill to turn a 4-3 lead into a 7-3 lead. Clarkston answered back with 6 straight points to take a 7-9 lead. They never lead by more than 2 and when they bricked a served to make it 12-13, Lockett served Prairie back into the lead. She had 1 ace while Hanson scored a block and Shears and Lexi Schumacher each added a kill. Clarkston answered with 4 straight to retake the lead. A kill by Lexi Schumacher and an ace by Hanson put Prairie back on top. Clarkston tied it but 2 kills by Ellie Nuxoll and 2 aces by Anderson put Prairie up 23-20. A kill by Kylie Schumacher got Prairie to match point. Prairie couldn’t put Clarkston away though as the Bantams scored 4 straight to tie the set at 24-24. A kill by Kylie Schumacher and an ace by Pecarovich gave Prairie the match. Lexi Schumacher had 10 kills and 3 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 9 kills. Hanson had 5 kills, including a block, and added an ace. Shears had 2 kills, including a block, plus an assist. Nuxoll had 2 kills. Anderson had 10 assists and 4 aces while Pecarovich had 9 assists and 4 aces. Lockett had 3 aces. In the bracket semifinal Prairie faced league for Logos and had to go 3 games to win, 25-18, 24-26, 15-11. Logos scored the opening points then Prairie took their first lead on a kill each by Hanson and Lexi Schumacher and an ace by Lockett. Logos tied it then a kill each by Shears, Lexi Schumacher Kylie Schumacher, an ace by Hanson and another kill by Lexi made it 8-3. Prairie then held the lead at 2 to 5 points until it was 20-18. Oliver scored a kill on a service dig and then Kylie Schumacher served out the game. It was her only turn serving on the day. Lexi Schumacher scored a kill, Kylie served an ace and Hanson scored a kill to get to set point. Kylie then served up another ace for the win. Logos jumped out to a 1-4 lead in the second game and Prairie came back to tie it at 6-6 but couldn’t take the lead. Logos took leads of 6-11 and 9-14 only to see Prairie come back to take a 15-14 lead as Pecarovich served 3 aces and Hanson added a kill and a block in a 5-point run. Logos took back the lead but Prairie tied it at 16 on a kill by Hanson. Logos took a 16-18 lead but 3 straight kills by Lexi Schumacher made it 19-18. After a kill by Lexi and 2 aces by Anderson it was 23-19. Logos scored a sideout but Lexi Schumacher scored another kill to get to match point at 24-20. However Prairie would not score another points as Logos scored 6 straight to force a third game. Logos took a 2-4 lead in the third game but then missed a serve. Hanson served 2 aces and Nuxoll added a kill to make it 6-4. After 3 straight sideouts it was 7-6. Lexi Schumacher scored a kill and then served an ace to make it 9-6. Logos answered with 4 straight to take a 9-10 lead. After 3 straight sideouts, Pecarovich served 3 straight aces to give Prairie another match point chance. This time Kylie Schumacher came through with a spike to the far corner to give Prairie the match win. Lexi Schumacher had 17 kills and 2 aces in the match. Hanson had 7 kills, including a block and 5 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 6 kills and 2 aces. Shears had 3 kills and 5 assists. Nuxoll had 3 kills. Riener had 1 kill and 1 assist. Oliver had 1 kill. Pecarovich had 19 assists and 6 aces. Anderson had 9 assists and 3 aces. Lockett had 1 ace. That put them up against the Lewiston JV for the Silver Bracket championship. Prairie beat Lewiston in straight sets 25-14, 25-20 Lewiston took the early lead at 1-5. A net violation sent Lockett to the service line. She served 2 aces and Lexi Schumacher scored 3 kills for a 7-5 lead. Prairie never trailed again in the set. After 2 sideouts, Hanson served 2 aces and Lexi Schumacher added 3 more kills to make it 13-6. After a Lewiston sideout, Lexi Schumacher scored a kill , Nuxoll scored on a block and Anderson added an ace for a 16-7 lead. After a pair of sideouts, Kylie Schumacher and Nuxoll each scored a kill for a 19-8 lead. After another Lewiston sideout, Kylie Schumacher scored 2 straight kills. Avery Riener added a kill for a 22-9 lead. Another kill by Riener made it 23-11. Lewiston scored 3 straight points before bricking a serve to make it 24-14. Lexi Schumacher then scored the set winning kill. In the second game Prairie trailed 2-3 when Lewiston missed a serve. Anderson then served 3 aces and Lexi Schumacher added a kill for a 7-3 lead. Lewiston came back to tie at 8-8 and then took the lead at 10-11 and again at 11-13. At that point Kylie Schumacher scored a kill and Lockett served 2 aces and Lexi Schumacher added 3 kills for a 17-13 lead. After 3 sideouts and an ace by Lewiston it was 18-16. Lexi Schumacher scored a sideout on a free ball and Anderson followed with 2 aces. Riener scored on a block and Lexi Schumacher and Nuxoll each scored a kill to get Prairie to match point at 24-16. Lewiston fought off 4 match points before Lexi Schumacher scored the match winning kill. Lexi Schumacher had 16 kills in the match. Kylie Schumacher had 7 kills. Nuxoll and Riener each had 3 kills, including a block, plus an assist. Shears had 1 kill. Pecarovich had 11 assists. Anderson had 10 assists and 6 aces. Hanson had 1 assist and 2 aces.
