Lady Patriots win twice
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots won a pair of league matches on the road last week. On Tuesday, Sept. 3 they won at Highland 25-18, 25-23, 24-26, 25-17. Then on Thursday, Sept. 5, they traveled to Weippe and beat Timberline 21-25, 26=24, 25-17, 25-17.
At Highland
In the first game against Highland, the Patriots fell behind 1-5 before rallying with Presley Schoo serving. She had an ace while Sarah Waters had a pair of kills and Savannah Perrin added a kill as Bosco took a 6-5 lead.
Points then went back and forth until Noelle Chmelik served 2 aces and Schoo scored a kill for a 14-11 lead.
When it became Schoo’s turn to serve again Bosco stretched the lead to 20-14 behind and ace, 2 more kills by Waters and a kill by Julia Wassmuth.
Bosco went on to win the set 25-18 when Waters served an ace.
The second game followed a similar script as the Patriots fell behind 0-2 and 2-6. Wassmuth had a 3 point run to get them back in the game with an ace plus a kill each by Perrin and Chmelik. They finally took their first lead when Rachel Sonnen scored on a tip to make it 8-7.
The two teams traded sideouts until Chmelik put together a 3-point run with an ace, a kill be Wassmuth and a block by Schoo. That made it 14-11.
Highland came back to retake the lead at 20-21. A kill by Waters tied it then an ace by Perrin and another kill by Waters made it 23-21. After a trade of sideouts made it 24-22, Highland was able to score another sideout to make it 24-23. Chmelik then scored the game winning kill on a set from Wassmuth.
In the third game Bosco scored first on a kill by Waters but then Highland came back with a pair of points. After Bosco tied it, Highland took back the lead and stretched it to as many as 9 points at 13-22.
Bosco rallied back to within 4 only to see Highland scored to get to game point at 19-24. A sideout free ball by Wassmuth put Chmelik at the service line and she almost served out the match. Bosco tied the score on a push by Perrin, a back row kill by Waters, a kill by Schoo and an ace by Chmelik. Highland then scored a sideout kill and scored an ace to win the game.
In game 4 Sonnen served 2 aces and Schoo added a kill for a 3-0 lead. After a sideout, a block by Perrin made it 5-1.
Highland got back within 2 at 9-7 but a kill by Waters sent her to the service line. Schoo scored a kill then 3 aces, a back row kill by Waters, a kill by Wassmuth, another ace and another kill be Schoo gave Bosco an 18-7 lead.
At 20-8, High scored a sideout and rallied back within 5 at 20-15.
Wassmuth scored a sideout kill and Sonnen was then able to serve the Patriots to match point on 2 aces and a kill by Wassmuth. After a sideout and another point by Highland, the match ended on a serve into the net.
For the match Waters had 26 kills, 3 assists and 7 aces. Wassmuth had 11 kills, 16 assists and 3 aces. Perrin had 9 kills, including a block and 3 aces. Schoo had 9 kills, including a block, 2 assists and 2 aces. Chmelik had 7 kills, 33 assists and 6 aces. Sonnen had 1 kil, 1 assist and 4 aces. Catherine Seubert had a kill and an ace and Miah Mager had an assist.
The JV team won both of their games 25-22 and 25-20.
At Timberline
At Timberline the Patriots lost the first set then rallied back to win the next 3 to win the match.
The Patriots are now 2-2 overall and in league.
In the JV matchSt. John Bosco lost to Timberline 18-25, 7-25.
