Lady Patriots win Patriots Volleyball schedule for 2024The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots won one of three league matches this past week. On Tuesday, Sept. 17 they traveled to Genesee and lost 15-25, 25-16, 8-25 and 16-25. On Thursday, Sept. 19, they opened the new Angelus Center gym at Cottonwood and lost 24-26, 20-25, 25-12 and 12-25 to Deary. Finally on Monday, Sept. 23, they picked up their first win in the Angelus Center as they beat Highland 25-9, 25-15 and 24-21. At Genesee After a back-and-forth start,

more lopsided than the one earlier this season, especially the first
set, which was dominated by the Patriots.Bosco jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind 3 kills from Savannah Perrin and a kill by Noelle Chmelik. After a trade of bad serves, Rachel Sonnen served 2 aces for a 7-1 lead. After another trade of sideouts, Perrin served 2 aces and Presley Schoo and Miah Mager each added a kill for a 12-2 lead. Bosco lead 15-5 when Schoo went to the service line. Chmelik scored a kill then Schoo served 4 straight aces for a 20-5 lead. Highland scored a sideout but Sonnen scored a kill and Sarah Waters served 2 aces and Sonnen added another kill to get to set point at 24-6. Highland fought off 3 set points before Chmelik scored the set-winning kill. In the second set Sonnen served an ace to give Bosco a 1-0 lead. The serve then went back and forth until Chmelik scored a kill to tie it at 7 and then went back to serve. She served 4 aces while Perrin had a pair of kills as Bosco took a 13-7 lead. It was 16-11 when Julia Wassmuth took her turn to serve. She had 3 aces while Waters had 2 kills and Wassmuth added a free ball kill to make it 22-11. Highland then scored 3 straight points before back to back kills by Waters made it 24-14. Highland fought off 1 set point before Waters smashed a spike for the winning kill. In the third set Bosco led early at 5-2 after 3 kills by Waters and another by Catherine Seubert. Highland then had their best stretch of the night with 6 straight points for a 5-9 lead. Waters scored on a tip then Wassmuth served 2 aces and Sonnen and Waters each added a kill to put Bosco back on top at 11-9. Highland scored 4 straight to retake the lead and the lead then traded hands 3 more times. At 16-17 Perrin scored a sideout kill. Chmelik then jump-served a couple of aces and Wassmuth and Perrin each added a kill to make it 21-17. Highland scored 2 then Sonnen scored on a tip and then served an ace to make it 23-19. After a missed serve on each side the score was 24-20 and at match point. Highland fought one off then Waters scored the match winning kill. Waters had 16 kills, 1 assists and 4 aces in the match. Perrin had 7 kills and 2 aces. Sonnen had 5 kills, 1 assist and 4 aces. Chmelik had 4 kills 18 assists and 6 aces. Wassmuth had 4 kills, 14 assists and 5 aces. Schoo had 2 kills and 4 aces. Seubert had 1 kill and 1 ace. Mager had 1 kill and 1 assist. St. John Bosco is now 3-5 on the season and 3-4 in league play. The Patriots also won the JV match 25-14, 25-18, 12-15. CeCe Remacle served the JV to a 3-0 lead with 2 aces plus a kill by Perrin. Bosco never trailed in the first set. The set was still close though until Madeline Wassmuth served 5 straight points. She had 2 aces while herself, Seubert and Catherine Beckman each had a kill to make it 21-11. Beckman wound up serving the set-winning ace. Schoo scored a sideout kill to open the second set and Remacle followed with an ace to make it 2-0. Highland then tied it at 2 and again at 4, 6 and 7. The Huskies finally took their first lead at 7-8 on an ace. They led by as many as 3 at 9-12, 12-15 and 15-18. At 15-18, Seubert scored a kill and Madeline Wassmuth went back to serve. That was it for Highland as Wassmuth served out the set to clinch the match win. She had 6 aces, including the set winner. Remacle and Beckman each added a kill. In the anticlimactic third set, Bosco’s intensity level dropped and they led just twice in the set, at 2-1 and again at 7-6. The kept it close as they tied it at 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 before Highland scored the final 3 points of the set. Rachel Sonnen winds up for a spike against Highland as Savannah Perrin looks on.
