As in their only other loss this season, the Prairie football team scored the first and last touchdowns of the game but it was all the opposing team in between as they lost 20-62 to Logos at Moscow Friday, Sept. 27. Prairie received the opening kickoff and started at their own 15. Prairie picked up a first down when Dylan Uhlenkott went back to punt on fourth and 5 at the 20. A low snap led him to take off running with the ball and he gained 10 yards. 2 plays later Uhlenkott picked up another first down with a 9 yard run. Prairie faced another fourth and 4 at their own 46 and Levi McElroy picked up 4 yards to convert the first down at midfield. At that point the drive stalled and Uhlenkott had to punt after a sack set up a fourth and 22 play. Logos took over on their own 35. Matt Wemhoff tackled the quarterback for a 3 yard loss. Logos then ran a halfback option pass and Phil Schwartz intercepted at the 40 and returned the ball to the Logos 36. McElroy passed to Wemhoff for 11 yards to set up first down at the 25. On third and 10, McElroy again found Wemhoff at the goal line for a touchdown. The 2-point try failed, leaving Prairie with a 6-0 lead. On an onside kick try, the Logos return man picked up the ball at the 40 and returned it to the Prairie 19. On fourth and 6 at the 15, Logos quarterback Seamus Wilson passed to George Evans for a touchdown. Logos completed a pass for the 2-pointer to take the lead at 6-8. After a kickoff into the end zone, Prairie picked up a first down on an 8 yard run by Uhlenkott. A fumble set them back 5 yards and Prairie had to punt on fourth and 15. Logos took over at their own 33 and needed just 2 plays to score again with Wilson covering the final 23 yards on a keeper to the left. They added the 2-pointer for a 6-16 lead. Prairie again had to punt and Logos took over at their 35. They moved down to the Prairie 25 but a fumble on third down and an incomplete pass on fourth down saw Prairie take over at the 31. McElroy slipped on first down and lost 6 yards. He complete a pass to Chris Schumacher for 10 yards on third down to get to the Prairie 36. McElroy’s fourth down pass was intercepted and after the return, Logos took over at the Prairie 20. Wilson scored on the next play and completed the 2-point pass for a 6-24 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Matt Wemhoff was unable to catch the kick and it bounced off him with Logos recovering at the Prairie 25. 2 plays later, Logos scored again on a 25 yard run by Wilson. Prairie stopped the 2-pointer this time but still trailed 6-30. Prairie was forced to punt again and Logos took over at their own 20 after an unsportsmanlike penalty was called. They needed just 6 plays to cover 85 yards with Wilson completing a 30 yard pass to Lucius Comis for the score. A 2-point conversion made it 6-38 with 1:28 left in the half. On Prairie’s first play after the kickoff return, McElroy was intercepted with Logos taking over at the Prairie 25. Two plays later Wilson passed to Dominic Porras for 30 yards and another touchdown. They added the 2-point for a 46-6 lead with 22 seconds left in the half. That was the score as the half ended which meant the entire second half would be played with a running clock. Logos received the second half kickoff and needed just 3 plays to cover 65 yards with Wilson scoring on a 55 yard run. Wilson added the 2-pointer to make it 6-54. A loss of 10 yards on a sack forced Prairie to punt again and Logos appeared to return the punt for a touchdown. A penalty canceled the score and Logos took over at the Prairie 45. The back up quarterback went in and still led the Knights to another score to make it 6-62 with 1:35 left in the third quarter. Prairie received the kickoff and Uhlenkott returned it 20 yards to the Prairie 30. Prairie finally put together another scoring drive. Uhlenkott and Schumacher alternated carrying the ball. After a 4 yard run by Schumacher and a 2 yard gain by McElroy, Prairie converted a first down when McElroy completed a screen pass to the left to Schumacher that gained 12 yards. Prairie then faced fourth and 6 when Logos jumped offsides making it fourth and 1 at the 18. McElroy ran a sneak for 3 yards and first and goal at the 10. McElroy gained 3 more on the next play then Uhlenkott scored on a run up the middle of 7 yards. The 2-point pass failed, making it 20-62 with 5:13 left to play. Logos recovered the onside kick this time but a fumble 2 plays later was recovered by Uhlenkott at the Logos 37.
