Lady Pirates at Genesee Tournament

SCHEDULE FOR 2024
The Prairie Lady Pirates will be at the Pea & Lentil Spike-Off at Genesee this Saturday, Oct. 5. They will be in a pool with Genesee, Colton and Kamiah and play in the main gym. Their first match with be against Kamiah at about 9 a.m. They will play again right away against Genesee. They will then get a 2-match break before playing Colton at about 1 p.m. Pomeroy, Grangeville, Kendrick and Wallace are in the other pool which will play in the auxiliary gym. Crossover matches to determine the champion and consolation winners will start at about 2 and 3 with the winners matches at about 4. Match play is best 2 of 3 to 25 with a third game if necessary to 15. Lady Pirates win twice The Prairie Lady Pirates won a pair of league matches last week. On Tuesday, Sept. 24, they beat Clearwater Valley 25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 25-21 and 15-5 at Kooskia. They on Thursday, Sept. 26 they swept Lapwai at Cottonwood 25-23, 25-14 and 25-15. At C.V. In the match at C.V., the Rams put up a tough fight and had Prairie on the ropes before the Lady Pirates rallied back to win.C.V. jumped out to a 0-4 lead in the first game but Prairie came right back to tie as TamdenPecarovich served 2 aces and Hailey Hanson added a kill. C.V. took the lead again and Prairie didn’t take their first lead until Lexi Schumacher served an ace to make it 12-11. C.V. took back the lead and except for a 13-13 tie, held onto the lead until Lexi’s next turn at the service line. Lexi scored a kill to make it 20-21. With Lexi serving, Kylie Schumacher and Ellie Nuxoll each scored a kill to give Prairie only their second lead of the set. An ace by Lexi, a block by Nuxoll and another ace by Lexi and Prairie had pulled out the first set win. A kill each by Kylie Schumacher and Hanson gave Prairie a 2-0 lead in the second set. After a kill by Lexi Schumacher, Prairie had a 4-2 lead. Then C.V. took the lead and never gave it back. Prairie kept within 2 to 5 points until the end of the match when C.V. scored a sideout to make it 17-21 and then scored 4 of the next 5 points to win by 8. C.V. jumped out to a 1-5 lead in the third set and led by as many as 5 at 10-15. At that point Prairie scored on a service dig by Nadia Cash and Pecarovich served them to a 16-15 lead. She had 1 ace while Sydney Shears and Hanson each scored 2 kills. Prairie led again at 18-17 after an ace by Kaylie Lockett but C.V. then took back the lead and never gave it back as they took a 1 set to 2 lead. Pecarovich served Prairie to a 3-0 lead in the fourth set with an ace, a block by Hanson and a tip by Cash. After a trade of sideouts, Lockett served an ace and then scored a back row kill to make it 6-1. C.V. came back to tie the score at 8-8 and took their first lead at 13-14. They led 15-18 when they missed a serve. Nuxoll scored a block and Lexi Schumacher added a kill to tie it at 18. After a missed serve, Cash scored a sideout kill. Lexi Schumacher served an ace and Cash added another kill. Nuxoll scored a pair of kills to make it 23-19. After a missed serve, Cash scored another side out kill to make it 24-20. A violation gave C.V. back the serve but they then served it too long to give Prairie the win and force a deciding fifth set. C.V. led the fifth set early on at 1-2 and 2-3. Prairie then took over and dominated the rest of the set. Pecarovich scored a free ball kill then Hanson served an ace to put Prairie up for good. Lexi Schumacher smashed a spike to the corner to make it 5-3. C.V. scored a sideout but Nuxoll and Lexi Schumacher combined on a block. Mia Anderson then went to the service line. Lexi Schumacher scored a kill. Nuxoll won a joust at the net and after a C.V. timeout, Anderson served an ace. C.V. got a sideout then Lexi Schumacher scored a kill and served out the match. She had 3 straight aces and Nuxoll scored 2 kills for the final 2 points. Lexi Schumacher scored 19 kills, including a block, plus 2 assists and 8 aces off her jump serve. Nuxoll scored 10 kills, including 3 blocks. Kylie Schumacher had 7 kills, including a block, plus 4 assists. Cash, who subbed in when Prairie was struggling in the fourth set, had 7 kills. Shears had 7 kills and 1 assist. Hanson had 5 kills, including a block, and 3 aces. Pecarovich had 3 kills, 24 assists and 5 aces. Beka Schumacher had 3 kills and 4 assists. Lockett had 1 kill and 5 aces. Anderson had 1 kill, 14 assists and 2 aces. Sierra Oliver had 1 kill and 1 assist. The JV team won their match 25-21, 25-17 and 15-13. C.V. took the early lead in the JV and although it was close, Prairie wasn’t able to take a lead until a kill by Beka Schumacher made it 14-13. Erica Schlader added an ace for a 15-13 lead. Once Prairie finally broke through, they never trailed again in the set. An ace by Beka Schumacher made it 19-15 and 2 aces by Faith Cash made it 22-16. Prairie led 24-18 after a missed serve by the Rams but C.V. fought off 3 straight set points before Nadia Cash scored the set winning kill. In the second game a kill by Halee Rowland and an ace by Faith Cash made it 2-0. C.V. came back to take a 3-4 lead. Prairie led 6-5 after an ace by Schlader but C.V. scored 2 straight to retake the lead. A kill by Kennedy Reiner made it 11-9 and Faith Cash then serve 4 straight to get some separation. She had 2 aces while Rowland had 2 kills for a 15-9 lead. After4 straight sideouts, Nadia Cash scored a kill to make it 18-11. After 2 more sideouts, Schlader served an ace and Schmacher and Nadia Cash each scored a kill for a 22-12 lead. An ace by Nadia Cash made it 24-15. C.V. then fought off 2 set points before Prairie scored the game winning point. In the third set Prairie took a 3-0 lead as Maggie Nuxoll scored a kill and Zoey Behler served 2 aces. After 2 sideouts, Nuxoll scored another kill and then served an ace for a 5-2 lead. C.V. came back to take a 6-9 lead. Prairie came back to pull within 1 on a sideout kill by Rowland. Nuxoll then served 2 aces to make it 12-11. C.V. tied it but Kylee Riggers scored a kill to make it 13-12. After a pair of missed serves, Nuxoll served up an ace to end the match. The C team won 19-25, 26-24 and 15-8. Vs. Lapwai After a tight opening set, Prairie of Cottonwood asserted itself over Lapwai to win in straight sets.The Pirates won the first set by just 2 points but won the other 2 by 11 and 10. Lexi and Kylie Schumacher hit 13 kills apiece for Prairie, while Kaylie Lockett was 17-for-17 serving with three aces and Ellie Nuxoll was13-for-14 serving with eight blocks).
