Lady Pirates win 1 of 5 matches
The Prairie Lady Pirates won in 3 games at Kendrick Tuesday, Oct. 1, 25-13, 25-20 and 25-20. On Thursday, Oct. 3, they hosted Troy on Pink out the Gym night and lost 29-31, 20-25, 16-25. Finally on Saturday, Oct. 5, they traveled to Genesee for the Pea & Lentil Spike-Off where they won just 1 of 4 matches played.
At Kendrick
In their first league match against Kendrick in many years, the Lady Pirates pulled off a straight set win. Hailey Hanson makes a block at Kendrick.
They won the first set 25-13. We missed that one as it started while we were on the way from the cross country meet at Deyo Reservoir.
In the second set, Kendrick scored first then Kylie Schumacher scored a kill and Kaylie Lockett served 3 aces for a 4-2 lead.
Kendrick came back to take a 5-8 lead. A kill each by Tamden Pecarovich and Lexi Schumacher plus an ace by Mia Anderson tied it at 8. Kendrick then scored 6 straight points to lead 8-14 and led 10-18 at one point.
Hailey Hanson then scored a kill and Pecarovich followed with a huge serving run. She served 5 aces while Kylie Schumacher scored 3 kills and Hanson and Sydney Shears each added one as Prairie scored 11 straight points to take a 21-18 lead.
After 4 straight sideouts, Hanson served an ace and Lexi Schumacher scored the set winning kill.
In the third set Prairie led just 7-5 when Lexi Schumacher scored a sideout kill. She added 2 more kills for a 10-5 lead.
Kendrick answered with 3 straight to cut the lead to 2 before bricking a serve.
An ace by Lexi Schumacher and a block by Ellie Nuxoll made it 13-8.
Kendrick was able to rally within 1 at 16-15 before a sideout kill by Lexi Schumacher. She added 3 more kills and Hanson served an ace for a 21-15 lead.
Kendrick was able to cut the lead to 23-20 before a sideout kill and then an ace by Lexi Schumacher that ended the match.
Prairie won both games of the JV match, no scores available.
Vs. Troy
The first set against Troy was a marathon battle that saw Troy finally pull out a 29-31 win. Troy then won the next two sets to sweep the match.
We have no information on the JV or the C match against Grangeville.
Genesee Tournament
Prairie had to go to a different rotation during the Pea & Lentil Spike Off at Genesee as Hailey Hanson was unavailable for the match and the JV swing players were unavailable as they had already played in two tournaments this season.
Pecarovich, who normally just plays back row, wound up playing the entire rotation as she and JV swing player Beka Schumacher had been trading off front and back row. Also, Aubree Rehder got a lot of playing time as she took Hanson’s spot.

They scored the first 2 points of the opening set on a kill by Kylie Schumacher and an ace by Pecarovich. Kamiah then scored 3 straight and Prairie never led again although they tied it at 3 and 6.
They tied it at 6-6 on a kill by Nuxoll but Kamiah then scored 6 straight points. Prairie never got any closer the rest of the set than 3 points at 9-12 after a jump serve ace by Lexi Schumacher.
It was 12-18 when Kamiah scored a sideout and then served out the set.
Kamiah scored the first 2 points of the second set then Prairie scored 5 straight. Shears scored a sideout kill then Lockett served 3 aces and Lexi Schumacher added a kill.
Kamiah came back to tie it at 6 but a kill by Shears put Prairie back on top. After a Kamiah sideout, a kill and then an ace by Lexi Schumacher made it 9-7. After another Kamiah sideout, a kill by Kylie Schumacher made it 10-8. Kamiah then scored 5 straight to take the lead for good.
In the second match Prairie face host Genesee, who wound up winning the tournament. Prairie took them to 3 games, losing 13-25, 26-24, 12-15.
In the first set they tied it at 1-1 and then Genesee scored 6 straight and led the rest of the set.
They got within 1 at 8-9 after 2 aces by Anderson and a kill by Lexi Schumacher. Genesee then scored 8 of the next 9 points to take a 9-18 lead. Prairie only scored on sideouts the rest of the set as Genesee won by 12.
In the second set Prairie took their first lead on a kill by Rehder and 2 aces by Pecarovich.
Genesee then scored 4 straight but Prairie bounced back to take an 8-5 lead on 2 kills by Lexi Schumacher, a kill by Nuxoll and a block by Nuxoll and Shears.
After a sideout, a block by Shears and a tip by Lexi Schumacher made it 10-6.
Genesee came back to tie at 10 but Prairie was able to keep them from taking the lead on a kill each by Lexi and Kylie Schumacher and an ace by Lexi.
Genesee did finally take their first lead at 17-18. A block by Shears tied it and Lexi Schumacher scored a kill and Rehder an ace to make it 20-18.
Genesee came back to take a 22-23 lead by a kill and then an ace by Lexi Schumacher got Prairie to set point at 24-23. Genesee tied it but a back row kill by Lexi gave Prairie another set point chance. This time they came through when Kylie Schumacher scored a kill.
In the third set to 15, Prairie took a 2-1 lead on a kill and a block by Shears. Genesee then took the lead and held it until Prairie tied it at 9-9 on an ace by Lexi Schumacher.
Genesee scored the sideout and then gave up just 1 service point by Prairie the rest of the way as they closed out the match.
In their third match of the round robin pool play, Prairie faced Colton and won in straight sets 25-16, 25-13.
In the opening set Prairie fell behind 1-2 but took the lead for good on a 4-point service run by Lockett. She had an ace while Lexi Schumacher scored 2 kills and Shears added one.
Rehder then had a 5-point run with 2 aces and 3 kills by Nuxoll that made it 12-4.
An ace by Lexi Schumacher and a kill by Nuxoll made it 16-7.
Nuxoll served up an ace and Kylie Schumacher added a kill that made it 19-8.
Prairie was up 24-13 after an ace by Rehder. Colton fought off 3 set points before Pecarovich scored the set winning kill.
In the second set Prairie trailed early on and took the lead for good on after Lexi Schumacher scored a sideout kill to tie it at 8-8. Pecarovich then served 5 straight points with 4 aces and a kill by Kylie Schumacher.
After 6 straight sideouts, Anderson served 2 aces and Nuxoll scored on a block to make it 19-11.
Lexi Schumacher scored a sideout kill and then served out the match. She had 3 aces, including the match winner and Nuxoll added a kill.
As the third place winner of their pool they matched up in the consolation bracket with Kendrick, who finished fourth in their pool. The Pirates wound up losing 10-25, 24-26, 11-15.
Kendrick took the early lead at 1-3 then Shears scored a sideout kill and Lockett served 8 straight points. She had 6 aces and Rehder and Lexi Schumacher each added a kill for a 10-3 lead.
After a paid of sideouts, Rehder scored 2 jump serve aces to make it 13-4.
After 2 more sideouts, Anderson served 4 straight. She had an ace while Nuxoll scored 2 kills and Lexi Schumacher added another for an 18-5 lead.
After a bunch of sideouts left the score at 22-10, Locket served out the set. Shears scored a kill then Lockett served 2 aces for the win.
Prairie took the momentum of that win only 1 point into the second set. Pecarovich scored on a free ball for a 1-0 lead then Kendrick scored 10 straight points.
Prairie managed to battle their way back thanks to aces by Lexi Schumacher and Anderson and kills by Kylie and Lexi Schumacher. After a sideout kill by Lexi, Rehder served 3 straight aces to tie it and Shears scored a kill for a 19-18 lead.
Kendrick tied it but a block by Nuxoll and a kill by Kylie Schumacher made it 21-19.
6 straight sideouts left Prairie with a match point chance at 24-22. They wouldn’t score another point as Kendrick scored the final 4 points of the set to even the match.
In the third set, 2 aces by Pecarovihc and an ace by Rehder had Prairie up5-2. Kendrick then scored 6 straight to take the lead and never gave it back as they eliminated the Pirates.
For the day Lexi Schumacher had 37 kills, r assists and 12 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 28 kills, including a block and 3 assists. Nuxoll had 18 kills, including 4 blocks, 1 assist and 1 ace. Shears had 17 kills, including 5 blocks, and 4 assists. Rehder had 10 kills, 1 assist and 16 aces. Pecarovich had 6 kills, 47 assists and 9 aces. Anderson had 2 kills, 36 assists and 7 aces. Lockett had 10 aces. Sierra Oliver had 4 assists and Lacey Schwartz had 2 assists.
Prairie is now 7-4 in league play and 11-10 overall.
