Lady Patriots win 1 of 2 St. John Bosco split a pair of home matches this past week. On Friday, Oct. 11, they defeated Nezperce 25-23, 24-26, 25-21, 25-9 at Cottonwood. On Saturday, Oct. 12, they lost to Clearwater Valley 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-25, also at Cottonwood. Vs. Nezperce Julia Wassmuth was a perfect 16-of-16 from the service line while Sarah Waters had 14 kills for the Patriots against Nezperce.The JV team lost to Nezperce. Vs. C.V. The Lady Patriots got off
to a good start against C.V. as Noelle Chmelik served them to a 3-0
lead with an ace and a kill each by Savannah Perrin and Rachel Sonnen.After a sideout by C.V., Wassmuth scored a kill for a 4-1 lead. A kill each by Wassmuth and Perrin had the Patriots up 6-2. They held the lead at 3 or 4 points until C.V. had a 1-4 rally to tie the score at 15. Bosco trailed for the first time at 17-18. Bosco tied it then C.V. took the lead for good. In the second game C.V. bricked the opening serve for a 1-0 Bosco lead. That turned out to be their only lead of the game. C.V. took a 3-9 lead and Bosco was able to rally back to tie it at 13-13 after 3 aces by Presley Schoo. C.V. then scored a sideout to retake the lead and scored 5 more for a 13-19 lead. Bosco managed to get back within 1 late in the set after a kill by Perrin and an ace by Chmelik made it 22-23. A missed spike scored a sideout for C.V. then Schoo scored a kill to make it 23-24. C.V. then scored to win the set. In the third set Chmelik served Bosco to a 4-0 lead with 2 aces plus a kill each by Wassmuth and Perrin. C.V. came right back to tie it at 4-4 before missing a serve. C.V. then scored built at 7-10 lead. They led 11-14 when they bricked a serve for a sideout. Chmelik then had another serving run with 4 aces plus a kill by Wassmuth as Bosco took the lead back at 16-14. After a sideout, Catherine Seubert scored a kill to send Sonnen to the service line. She served Bosco to a 21-15 lead with 2 aces plus a pair of kills by Wassmuth. An ace by Schoo got Bosco to set point. A double hit call scored a sideout then C.V. bricked a serve to give Bosco the set. Bosco was unable to take any momentum into the fourth set though as they never led. A kill by Chmelik tied it at 1-1 and a kill by Sonnen tied it at 2-2. They tied it again at 3 on a missed C.V. serve and at 6-6 after a kill by Perrin. C.V. then took the lead on a net violation by Bosco and scored 8 straight points for a 6-15 lead. They went on to win by 10 to win the match. Perrin had 15 kills to lead the team with 2 assists and 2 aces. Wassmuth had 11 kills, 6 assists and 2 aces. Schoo had 6 kills and 4 aces. Chmelik had 4 kills, 20 assists and 9 aces with her jump serve. Sonnen had 2 kills and 2 aces. Seubert had 2 kill and 1 assist. CeCe Remacle had 3 assists and Miah Mager had 2 assists. They are now 5-4 in league play with a match against Genesee yet to play, and 7-7 overall. Bosco won the JV match 25-23, 25-21. In the first set the trailed most of the game. Except for a couple of brief leads, they trailed until Schoo scored a sideout kill at 19-22 that sent Remacle to the service line. She served 2 aces then Sarah Waters scored a back row kill. 2 more aces got the Patriots to set points at 24-22. C.V. scored a sideout then Catherine Beckman picked up a kill on a free ball to give the Patriots the set. In the second set Bosco took their first lead on an ace by Beckman and then Seubert added a kill to make it 4-2. A kill each by Madeline Wassmuth, Waters and Remacle made it 7-3. Except for a tie at 15-15, Bosco held the lead until a 4-point run by C.V. gave them a 19-21 lead. Schoo then scored a sideout kill and Remacle went back to serve. A kill by Seubert was followed by an ace from Remacle. After a net violation by C.V., Madeline Wassmuth scored a kill and then Remacle served an ace for the match winner.
