Lady Patriots win 2 of 4
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots won as long as they weren’t playing Genesee this past week. On Senior Night on Wednesday, Oct. 16, they lost to Genesee 12-25, 22-25 and 17-25. At the District Tournament at Lewiston on Saturday, Oct. 19, they beat Highland 26-24, 25-19 and 25-15 and then upset a Deary team that had beaten them twice during the season, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-17. Then on Monday, Oct. 21, they lost to Genesee 10-25, 14-25 and 9-25. They were to play a loser out match against Nezperce on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
Senior Night against Genesee

The first set started well as Noelle Chmelik scored a sideout kill and then served an ace. The lead didn’t last long though as Genesee scored 3 straight. Waters scored a kill to tie it then Genesee took the lead for good.
They built a 4-11 lead and then slowly added to the lead until they won the set by 13.
In the second set Julia Wassmuth scored a kill for a 1-0 lead. After Genesee tied it, Wassmuth scored another kill for a 2-1 lead.
Genesee took the lead at 3-4 and built it to 4-11.
Bosco got back within 4 at 8-12 after a pair of kills by Waters and an ace by Waters and a kill by Savannah Perrin.
Genesee pushed the lead to 7 at 9-16 then Perrin scored a sideout kill and Sonnen served 4 straight aces to get Bosco back within 2 at 14-16. After a sideout, a kill each by Wassmuth and Waters cut the deficit to 1 at 16-17.
Bosco was able to tie the score at 19 after 2 kills by Waters and an ace by Wassmuth.
A missed serve then gave Genesee back the lead and they never gave it up as they won by 3.
Bosco never led in the third set as Genesee scored the first point. A kill by Sonnen tied it then Genesee scored 4 straight for a 1-5 lead. They built a 3-10 lead. Bosco was able to get back within 3 at 10-13 after 2 kills by Chmelik and a block by Waters.
Genesee then pulled away and led by as many as 10 at 14-24 before winning by 8. Bosco fought off 3 match points before succumbing as Catherine Seubert, Chmelik and Waters each scored a kill.
Waters had 11 kills, including a block plus 2 aces. Chmelik had 5 kills, 14 assists and 1 ace. Perrin had 5 kills. Wassmuth had 4 kills, 9 assists and 3 aces. Seubert had 3 kills. Sonnen had 2 kills, 1 assist and 4 aces. Miah Mager had 1 kill and 2 assists. Presley Schoo had 1 kill.
The JV team split their final match of the season 25-19, 12-25.
Schoo scored a set opening kill and CeCe Remacle served 2 aces for a 3-0 lead. After a sideout, Madeline Wassmuth scored a kill and Schoo served 4 straight aces for an 8-1 lead.
Genesee came right back with 7 straight points to tie it and eventually took the lead at 11-12.
The lead traded hands 3 times and was tied at 18-18 when Perrin scored a kill to put Bosco in the lead for good.  Madeline Wassmuth then served 3 straight points with Remacle scoring a kill and combined with Perrin on a block. Catherine Beckman added a kill to make it 22-18.
After a sideout, Genesee then bricked a serve and Seubert served 2 aces to finish the set.
Bosco led only once in the season set and that was at 5-4 after a back row kill by Miah Mager. They fell behind by as many as 9 at 13-22 before rallying to make it close.
Seubert scored a sideout and then served 3 straight on an ace and a kill each by Schoo and Remacle to get within 5 at 17-22.
After a sideout and then a missed Genesee serve, Perrin served 3 aces and Schoo added a kill to get within 1 at 22-23. Genesee then scored the final 2 points to salvage a split.
Vs. Highland at District
Bosco opened District play against Highland and were without Waters for the day. It seemed to take them a bit to adjust to her absence with Seubert getting additional floor time in her place.
In the first set they fell behind 0-5 and trailed until tying the score at 11 after a kill each by Sonnen and Chmelik and an ace by Wassmuth.
They were unable to take the lead and fell behind again by as many as 6 points at 14-20.
After a missed serve they trailed 21-24 and it seemed a foregone conclusion they would lose the first set. However Highland missed their serve and Schoo then served out the set. Perrin and Chmelik each scored a kill to tie the set at 24. Schoo then served 2 straight aces to win it.
Their only leads of the set were the final 2 points.
With some confidence built with a set behind them without Waters, they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set on a kill each by Seubert and Chmelik and an ace by Schoo.
An ace by Seubert and a kill by Perrin made it 7-2. A tip by Schoo and a kill be Sonnen made it 11-4.
Highland was able to get back within 4 at 18-14 but got no close. 2 kills by Schoo and an ace by Wassmuth made it 21-14. After 4 straight sideouts, an ace by Schoo made it 24-16.
Highland scored 3 straight points to get within 5 before Perrin scored the set winning kill.
A sideout kill by Seubert and an ace by Schoo opened the third set 2-0.
A kill by Wassmtuh made it 4-1. After 2 sideouts, a kill by Perrin and an ace by Seubert made it 7-2.
After another pair of sideouts, Perrin served Bosco to a 13-3 lead. She had 2 aces while Wassmuth had 2 kills and Sonnen added a kill as well.
Highland got back within 5 at 19-14 before missing a serve. A kill b Sonnen made it 21-14. After a missed serve Schoo scored 3 straight kills to get to match point. Wassmuth then served an ace to move Bosco to a winner’s bracket match against #2 seeded Deary.
Wassmuth had 11 kills, 17 assists and 3 aces in the match. School had 11 kills, 1 assist and 6 aces. Perrin had 9 kills, 1 assist and 3 aces. Chmelik had 8 kills, 17 assists and 2 aces. Sonnen had 6 kills, 2 assists and 1 ace. Seubert had 3 kills and 2 aces. Mager had 1 kill and 1 assist.
Vs. Deary at District
The match against Deary has to be considered a huge upset as the Mustangs had beaten them twice during the season, dropping just 1 of the 7 sets played. Plus Bosco was missing probably their best hitter.
Savannah Perrin had a huge serving run in the third set against Deary that turned a 6-point deficit into a 7 point lead.Perrin scored a set opening kill for a 1-0 lead. After Deary tied it, Chmelik scored a kill and then served 2 aces for a 4-1 lead.
After another Deary sideout, Wassmuth scored on a top and Seubert followed with an ace and Wassmuth scored 2 more kills for an 8-2 lead.
Deary came back within 1 at 11-10 but a kill by Wassmuth, a net violation against Deary and a kill by Perrin made it 14-10.
Deary made it 14-12 then Chmelik scored a sideout kill to the corner and then went to the serving line. A net violation was followed by 3 straight aces and a kill by Perrin as Bosco took a 20-12 lead.
At 21-15, Deary missed a serve and Perrin was able to serve out the set. Schoo scored a kill. Next was a rotation violation against Deary and a kill by Wassmuth finished off the set.
Deary took leads of 0-3 and 1-6 in the second set. Chmelik then scored a sideout on a tip and then serve Bosco into the lead. A kill by Perrin was followed by a tip by Wassmuth. An ace was followed by a kill by Wassmuth and 2 kills by Seubert for an 8-6 lead.
After 2 missed serves, Seubert served an ace and Perrin scored a kill for an 11-7 lead.
Deary scored twice then missed a serve. A kill by Wassmuth and a net violation made it 14-9.
Deary got back within 3 at 15-12 and again at 18-15. At that point Seubert scored a kill and Chmelik went back to serve. 2 kills by Perrin, a kill by Wassmuth and an ace by Chmelik made it 23-15. After a sideout Wassmuth scored on a tip to get to set point.
Deary scored a kill but Perrin then pushed the ball to the back line for the set winner.
Deary started the third set up 0-6 and 2-9.
A tip by Perrin sent her back to the service line. That is where Bosco won the match as Perrin served 13 straight points to put Bosco in control. She had 4 aces while Schoo had 5 kills, Wassmuth had 2 kills and Mager and Sonnen each added a kill as Bosco took a 16-9 lead.
Deary fought back within 3 at 16-13 but a kill each by Sonnen and Schoo made it 18-13. It was 18-15 when Deary scored a point and then rotated servers. That cost the Mustangs a point and kept Sonne at the service line as Schoo and Seubert each scored a kill for a 22-15 lead.
A sideout was followed by a kill by Wassmuth. An ace by Schoo made it match point at 24-16. After a sideout, Chmelik scored the match winning kill.
Wassmuth had 15 kills and 15 assists in the match. Perrin had 10 kills, 1 assist and 5 aces. Schoo had 8 kills, 1 assist and 1 ace. Chmelik had 7 kills, 26 assists and 7 aces. Seubert had 6 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces. Sonnen had 2 kills and 3 assists. Mager had 1 kill. Of note, Perrin was the server for 18 points and Chmelik for 17 points,
Vs. Genesee at District
In the match against Genesee on Monday, the Lady Patriots scored the first 2 points and then gave up 7 of the next 8 to fall behind 3-7.
They rallied back to within 6-7 but then Genesee scored 6 straight to take control as they scored 18 of the final 22 points of the set.
In the second set Bosco again scored the first 2 points. They then fell behind 4-5 but with Sonnen serving they took an 8-5 lead. They held the lead until Genesee tied it at 12-12. A missed Genesee serve put the Patriots back on top but it was the final time in the set. Genesee scored the next 4 points and gave up just 1 point the rest of the set as they closed it out 1-13.
In the third set the Patriots made it 3 for 3 in scoring the first point as Waters, who was back with the team, score a kill. Genesee then scored 3 straight and 11 of the next 12 points to take a 2-11 lead.
Genesee extended the lead to 3-15 and 5-22 before going on to win by 16.
The Patriots are now 9-9 on the season.
