Pirates lose on Senior Night
The Prairie football team stayed close to Kendrick in the first half thanks to defense and special teams but were shut out in the second half as they lost 20-52 at Cottonwood on Senior Night Friday, Oct. 25.

Prairie received the opening kickoff and were forced to punt.
Likewise the Tigers were forced to punt on their first possession.
Prairie took over at their own 29 and picked up the initial first down of the game by either side when quarterback Levi McElroy connected with Matt Wemhoff for a 26 yard gain.
However, 2 plays later the Pirates fumbled the ball away. Something that would plague them especially in the second half.
Kendrick took over at their own 43 and two big passes from Mattox Kirkland to Sawyer Hewett led to the first score of the game. One went for 29 yards and the second for 17 and the touchdown. Kendrick added the 2-pointer for a 0-8 lead.
Kendrick’s kickoff was taken by Chris Schumacher at about the Prairie 40 and he circled back to the middle of the field at about the 35 where he handed off to Uhlenkott who was going the opposite direction. Uhlenkott took the ball all the way to the end zone. Prairie’s 2-point run was stopped short as they now trailed 6-8.
Kendrick needed just 2 plays to score their second touchdown as Hewett scored from 52 yards out. They added the 2-pointer for a 6-16 lead.
Kendrick’s kickoff then bounced off a Prairie player and the Tigers recovered at the Prairie 42.
On the next play Kendrick tried a pass into the middle where Wemhoff batted the ball and then caught it at the Prairie 44 and went 56 yards for a touchdown. McElroy passed to Schumacher for the 2-pointer to make it 14-16.
Prairie then tried an onside kick but Kendrick recovered at their 44. After a 17 yard pass plays, the Tigers fumbled with Quintal recovering at the Prairie 40.
Prairie picked up a first down but were then forced to punt. The punt went just 8 yards off the side of Uhlenkott’s foot as Prairie took over at their 40.
Kendrick moved the ball down to a first and goal at the 7. 3 running plays moved the ball to the 1. Kendrick’s fourth down pass fell incomplete and Prairie took over on downs.
Unfortunately McElroy slipped on the next play and was tackled in the end zone for a safety making the score 14-18.
Prairie had to then kick off from their 20 and Kendrick took over on their own 40. During the return a Kendrick defender was called for unnecessary roughness on Matt Wemhoff, knocking him out of the game with a possible concussion. That set them back to the 25.
Kendrick wound up having to punt and Prairie took over at the 50.
Prairie picked up a first down on a 14 yard pass from McElroy to Schumacher. However on the next play, the center snap sailed over McElroy’s head and Kendrick recovered at the Prairie 48.
Kendrick went on to score and take a 14-24 lead. Carter Shears tackled the runner short of the goal line on the 2-point try.
Kendrick tried an onside kick but it only went 5 yards and prairie took over at the Kendrick 45.
On the next play Uhlenkott finally found an opening and took the ball 45 yards to the end zone. The 2-point try failed as Prairie cut the deficit to 20-24 with 36 seconds left in the half.
Kendrick received the second half kickoff and moved to the Prairie 40 before turning the ball over on downs.
Prairie had the ball for just 2 plays as they fumbled and Kendrick picked up the loose ball at the 35 and returned it to the 25.
Two plays later they scored and added a 2-point pass for a 20-32 lead.
On Prairie’s next possession the started at their own 35 and were able to pick up a couple of first down as the moved to the Kendrick 32. At that point they turned the ball over on downs.
Kendrick took over and mostly passing the ball moved down field for another touchdown. They added the 2-pointer for a 20-40 lead.
The ensuing kickoff went out of bounds and Prairie had Kendrick rekick. This time the ball wound up being recovered by Kendrick at the Prairie 43. Kendrick scored again on the next play. Phil Schwartz broke up the 2-point pass attempt as Kendrick now led 20-46.
Prairie fumbled on the ensuing kickoff and Kendrick wound up with the ball at the Prairie 32. The scored again 6 plays later with the help of a questionable pass interference penalty. The 2-point pass failed leaving them with a 20-52 lead.
Prairie took over after the kickoff on their own 28. They were able to moved the ball into Kendrick territory at the 47 before stalling and turning the ball over on downs.
Kendrick then just ran out the clock.
Prairie wound up with 59 yards rushing on 30 attempts. Uhlenkott had 59 yards on 12 attempts.
McElroy completed 5 of 10 passes for 74 yards. Schumacher caught 2 for 25 yards. Wemhoff caught 1 for 26, Rambo 1 for 13 and Levi Gehring 1 for 10 yards.
Kendrick had 148 yards rushing on 30 attempts led by Xavier Carpenter who had 67 on 9 carries.
Kirkland completed 18 of 23 passes with 1 interception for 287 yards.
Defensively McElroy had 5 tackles and 4 assists. Uhlenkott had 3 tackles and 6 assists plus 2 sacks. Schwartz had 4 tackles. Schumacher had 3 tackles and 4 assists. Shears had 3 tackles and 1 assist. Quintal had 2 tackles, 3 assists and a fumble recovery. Wemhoff had 2 tackles, 2 assists and 1 interception. Gehring had 3 tackles and 1 assist. Rambo had 1 tackles and 1 sack. Ashton Martin had 1 assist.
Prairie finishes their regular season with a 6-3 record, 5-2 in league play.

Dylan Uhlenkott took a handoff from Chris Schumacher on a kickoff return  and went 65 yards for a touchdown for Prairie's first points of the game.
