Lady Pirates qualify for State
The Prairie Lady Pirates advanced to State for the first time since 2018 by finishing second at the District Tournament. On Tuesday, Oct. 22, they beat Clearwater Valley 25-23, 25-12, 23-25, 25-17. On Wednesday, Oct. 23, they defeated Lapwai, who had upset Kamiah the night before, 25-12, 25-15, 23-25, 25-15. Finally on Thursday, Oct. 24, they swept Potlatch 25-16, 25-20, 25-22 to take second at District and earn a trip to State.
Vs. C.V.
In the match against C.V. they took the lead on 2 kills by Lexi Schumacher, a kill by Sydney Shears and a block by Shears and Hailey Hanson that made it 5-3. Hailey Hanson makes a block against C.V.
An ace by Hanson and a tip by Lexi Schumacher made it 8-4. C.V. came back and eventually took the lead at 14-15. Prairie tied it at 15, 18 and 19 before finally retaking the lead when TamdenPecarovich served an ace to tie it the scored a pair of tips to make it 23-21. C.V. tied it at 23 before a kill each by Shears and Lexi Schumacher gave Prairie the set.
Pecarovich got Prairie off to a great start in the second set as she served the Pirates to a 10-0 lead. She had 3 aces while Kylie Schumacher scored 4 kills, Hanson had a block and a kill and Shears added a kill.
After C.V. got on the board and made it 11-2, Lexi Schumacher scored 3 straight kills and Hanson added an ace to make it 15-2.
The closest C.V. would get would be 8 points at 16-8 and against at 19-11. At 21-12, Pecarovich scored a second touch push for a sideout. Kaylie Lockett served 2 aces and Hanson won a joust at the net for the set point.
C.V. came out fired up in the third ser and took a 0-4 lead. Prairie took their first lead at 7-6 on a kill by Beka Schumacher but it was short-lived as C.V. came back and built a 5 point lead at 10-15.
Prairie came back to tie at 20 on a kill by Kylie Schumacher. Beka Schumacher then served 3 straight aces for a 23-20 lead before missing a serve. C.V. then was able to score 4 more to win the set.
Pecarovich served Prairie to a 5-0 lead in the fourth set with 4 aces and a smash spike from Kylie Schumacher.
C.V. rallied back to withing 7-5. A kill each by Hanson and Beka Schumacher made it 9-5 then came 8 straight sideouts before a kill by Lexi Schumacher made it 14-9. After a C.V. sideout, Hanson scored a kill and Lockett went back to serve. An ace, 4 kills by Lexi and a kill by Shears gave Prairie a 21-10 lead.
C.V. rallied with 7 of the next 8 points to pull within 5 at 22-17. A free ball by Pecarovich was followed by an ace by Mia Anderson and a match winning kill by Lexi Schumacher.
Lexi Schumacher had 25 kills and 5 assists in the match. Kylie Schumacher had 17 kills and 2 assists. Hanson had 10 kills, including 3 blocks, 1 assist and 2 aces. Shears had 9 kills, including 2 blocks and 3 assists. Pecarovich had 4 kill, 31 assists and 9 aces. Beka Schumacher had 3 kills and 4 aces. Avery Riener and Lacey Schwartz each had a kill. Anderson had 12 assist and 1 ace.
Vs. Lapwai
In the opening set against Lapwai, Pecarovich repeated her serving run from the second set against C.V. as she served Prairie to a 10-0 lead. She had 5 aces while Kylie Schumacher had 3 kills and Shears added 2 kills.
After Lapwai made it 12-2, Lexi Schumacher scored 2 kills, Ellie Nuxoll scored a kill, Lexi scored a block, Hanson served an ace and Shears scored on a tip for an 18-2 lead. Prairie then cruised to a 13 point win.
In the second set, Prairie didn’t take their first lead until Lexi Schumacher scored back-to-back kills to make it 5-4. After a pair of sideouts, Anderson served 2 aces and Pecarovich added a kill for an 8-5 lead.
After Lapwaisideout, Lexi Schumacher smashed the ball for a sideout kill. She then served 3 aces and Kylie Schumacher added a kill to make it 14-6.
Prairie kept siding out Lapwai’s serves and adding a point or two of their own on serve to built a 23-12 lead. Lapwai then finally scored on serve as they made it 23-15 before a sideout kill and then an ace by Lexi Schumacher to send the set.
In the third set Prairie took the lead on an ace by Lexi Schumacher at 5-4 and built it to 13-9 on a kill by Shears. Lapwai then scored 6 of the next 7 points to take the lead at 14-15.
Prairie tied it at 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 23 but could never retake the lead. At 23-23 Lapwai scored a sideout and then the set winning kill.
In the fourth set Prairie scored the first 2 points on a kill each by Lexi Schumacher and Kylie Schumacher and never trailed.
Lockett served 2 aces and Lexi added a kill for a 6-1 lead. A kill each by Anderson and Riener made it 12-4.
Lapwai got within 5 at 13-8 and 14-9 but a free ball by Shears and a kill each by Pecarovich and Lexi Schumacher made it 17-9.
Lapwai got within 6 at 18-12 but a tip by Lexi Schumacher, 2 aces by Anderson and a kill by Nuxoll made it 22-12.
At 24-15, Kylie Schumacher scored the match winning kill.
Lexi Schumacher had 31 kills, including a block, plus 1 assist and 5 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 16 kills and an assists. Shears had 10 kills. Hanson had 4 kills and 4 aces. Pecarovich had 3 kills, 39 assists and 5 aces. Nuxoll had 3 kills, including a block, and Kylie Schumacher goes up for a spike against Potlatch at District1 ace. Anderson had 1 kill, 17 assists and 5 aces. Sierra Oliver had 1 kill. Lockett had 2 aces. Schwartz had 1 assist.
Vs Potlatch
In the second place game against Potlatch, with a state berth on the line, Prairie scored the first point on a kill by Kylie Schumacher, then fell behind 1-4.
After a missed Potlatch serve, Lockett served Prairie back into the lead. She had 1 ace while Lexi Schumacher scored 3 kills to make it 6-4.
After 4 straight sideouts, Anderson served 2 aces to make it 10-6.
At 11-9, Potlatch bricked a serve and Nuxoll served Prairie to a 16-9 lead with 2 aces plus 2 kills by Kylie Schumacher.
Potlatch got within 6 at 19-13 then missed a serve. Lockett served 2 aces and Hanson scored on a block to make it 23-13. After 2 points by Potlatch, Lexi Schumacher scored a kill to get to set point. After a Potlatch sideout, Lexi added another kill to win the set.
Prairie started the second set with 2 kills by Kylie Schumacher.
Potlatch tied it at 2, 3 and 4, but couldn’t take the lead. At 4-4 Lexi Schumacher scored back to back kills. Nuxoll scored a block and Kylie Schumacher scored a kill for an 8-4 lead.
Potlatch was able to rally within 1 at 12-11 but a kill by Hanson and an ace by Lockett made it 14-11.
At 15-13, Shears scored a kill and 2 kills by Lexi Schumacher and an ace by Anderson made it 19-13.
Potlatch got back within 2 at 20-18 but a sideout kill by Kylie Schumacher and 2 aces by Nuxoll made it 23-18. After a sideout, Hanson scored a kill to get to set point. Potlatch scored a sideout but then Hanson scored on a block to give Prairie a 2 sets to 0 lead. The first time in 3 matches against the Loggers that Prairie had won more than 1 set.
In the third set Potlatch was able to take a lead at 3-4 but a kill by Lexi Schumacher and a block and a kill by Nuxoll made it 6-4.
Potlatch tied it at 6 and again at 7 but Prairie then built a 13-9 lead after 2 aces by Pecarovich. Potlatch then rallied back with 8 straight points to take a 13-17 lead before missing a serve. Lockett served an ace but a double hit scored a sideout. 2 kills by Lexi Schumacher 2 aces by Hanson put Prairie back on top at 19-18.
Potlatch then took back the lead at 19-21. A kill each by Shears and Lexi Schumacher tied it. Potlatch scored a sideout kill to take what would be their final lead at 21-22. Lexi Schumacher then scored a sideout kill to tie it and went to the service line. Kylie Schumacher and Anderson each scored a kill to get to match point. Kylie Schumacher then scored the match winning kill to send Prairie into a celebration and to the state tournament.
Lexi Schumacher had 20 kills and 1 assist in the match. Kylie Schumacher had 14 kills. Hanson had 9 kills, including 3 blocks, with 1 assist and 2 aces. Nuxoll had 3 kills, including 2 blocks and 4 aces. Shears had 2 kills and an assist. Pecarovich had 1 kill, 18 assists and 4 aces. Anderson had 1 kill, 18 assists and 3 aces. Oliver had 1 kill and 2 assists. Lockett had 5 aces. Schwartz had 1 assist.
Prairie takes a 17-12 record into the state tournament.
