State tournaments are this week All five local Cottonwood area fall sports teams have qualified for their respective state tournaments: Prairie football, volleyball and boys and girls cross country and St. John Bosco volleyball. Following is a breakdown for each. Prairie Football
The Prairie football team is the #4 ranked
non-conference champion and will host #5 ranked Grace this Friday, Nov.
1 at 6 p.m. at the Prairie Track/Football complex.
Grace has a record of 5-4 and was the runner-up to Butte County in the High Desert league. The teams have one common opponent, C.V. Grace defeated C.V. 36-12 while Prairie beat them 54-36. The 4 first round winners will be reseeded along with the 4 conference champions who received a first round bye for second round matchups using the MaxPreps rankings for the end of the regular season. Prairie would likely be traveling for a second round game if they win this Friday. Other first round matchups are: #8 Potlatch at #1 Kendrick; #7 Raft River at #2 Hagerman and #6 Glenns Ferry at #3 Kamiah. Receiving byes were Logos, Butte County, Valley and Rimrock. The Prairie Lady Pirates will open state play at 1
p.m. MST on Thursday, Oct. 31, against Hagerman at Jerome High School.
Prairie is the #6 seed into the tournament while Hagerman is the #3
seed. Hagerman finished third in the Snake River Conference and brings
a 20-5 record into the state tournament.
Other first round matchups are #2 seeded Butte County against #7 Liberty Charter; #1 Troy against #8 Genesis Prep and #4 Oakley against #5 Wilder. If Prairie wins they would play the Butte County-Liberty Charter winner at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. If they lose they would play that matchups loser at 9 a.m. on Friday. See bracket below. St. John Bosco Volleyball
The Lady Patriots will open state play at 5 p.m. MST
on Thursday, Oct. 31 against #1 seed Rockland at Canyon Ridge High
School in Twin Falls. Rockland is 23-5 and won the Rocky Mountain
Conference. This is the school’s first ever state appearance in
volleyball.
If Bosco wins they would play the Genesee-Grace Lutheran winner at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. If they lose they would play the loser of that match at 11 a.m. on Friday. Both the boys and girls cross country teams qualified
for state. The state meet will be held at Eagle Island State Park near
Eagle on Saturday, Nov. 2.
The 2A girls race will be at 1:30 p.m. MST and the 2A boys race will be at 2:30 p.m. MST.
