you know we have a little treasure right here in Cottonwood? One of the
Classes I teach again this year is a Service Project Day class on
Wednesdays. I take my release time students off campus and we do service projects around town. Last
year I was approached by a community member who asked if my release
time high school student would be willing to do some cleanup on a path
in our little town's backyard. Some Community members and businesses
donated time and money to put in a Stations of the Cross path that
begins at the back of St Mary’s Hospital and winds up the hillside by
the train tracks to a Cross that is illuminated at night and can be
seen from most of the town. This Path has 14 markers for anyone to follow and pray or meditate on the 14 stations of the Cross of Jesus. Partway up the path is another trail that has steps and a landing that leads down by the creek.I was asked if my Service Project students would be willing to take over the upkeep of this little treasure and I happily said yes. I had no idea this little path even existed. I have spoken to many community members who also had no idea this path was here. I would like to invite everyone to take some time and visit this Little Treasure that has been tucked away. I would also like to thank all the people who helped to put this in, and I want you to know I will do my best to keep it looking nice with the help of my students. If there is anyone else that is interested in putting time or energy into cleaning this up please get a hold of me. Sarah Walsh, Tri-Parish Youth Minister 208-507-0528.
