23 turn out for Lady Pirates basketball
Prairie has 23 girls out for Lady Pirates basketball this year.
Head coach Lori Mader returns for her 15th season with Daphne Hanson returning as JV coach for her third year.
Prairie will have 11 players on the varsity squad led by senior Lexi Schumacher, Aubree Rehder, Ellie Nuxoll and Kadence Kalmbach. Juniors are Sydney Shears, Hailey Hanson, Sage Elven and Kylie Schumacher. Sophomores are Nadia Cash and Erica Schlader. Freshman Mia Anderson is also on the varsity squad.
Both Schumachers, Hanson and Elven are returning starters and Shears was the first player off the bench last year. They would likely make Prairie the favorite to win the league this year. Lapwai lost some starters to graduation but always seems to reload and will also likely vie for the league title. Kamiah will likely be down this year after losing 4 starters to graduation as well as their coach. Kendrick, the defending 1A-D2 champion is in the same situation as Kamiah as they also lost 4 starters to graduation and have a new coach. Potlatch and Troy are more volleyball schools than basketball. C.V. should be improved as they apparently have a larger turnout this year. Logos rounds out the league. They did not play a full league schedule last year.
Making up the JV squad are sophomores Lillian Rehder and Halee Rowland and freshmen Faith Cash, Reagan Brannan, Molly Fowler, Blake Uhlenkott, Alli Rambo, Beka Schumacher, Kenly Forsmann, Grace Kaschmitter, Mikayla Rowland and Zoey Behler. Anderson will be a swing player who will get time on both JV and varsity.
Currently athletic director Travis Mader is trying to find more games for the JV squad as Troy, Potlatch and Kamiah do not have JV teams and C.V. is looking at playing just half games of JV.
