Lady Patriots out in 2 at State The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots had a short stay at the State Tournament at Canyon Ridge High School in Twin Falls as they were unable to win even 1 set. They were the #8 seed and opened against #1 seed Rockland and lost 10-25, 16-25, 16-25 on Thursday, Oct. 31. On Friday, Nov. 1, they faced league foe Genesee, who had been beaten by eventual state champion Grace Lutheran of Pocatello. Grace Lutheran won state without losing a set despite coming in as the #5 seed. The Patriots lost to Genesee 9-25, 16-25, 18-25. Vs. Rockland Bosco scored the first 2

Perrin each scored on a tip. Rockland then scored 3 straight to take
their first lead. A kill by Sarah Waters tied it at 3-3. After falling
behind again, a pair of kills by Waters tied it at 6-6.Rockland then scored a sideout and served 8 straight points to open up a 9-point lead. Bosco scored just 1 more point in the set when they had the serve, an ace by Waters. Rockland wound up winning the set by 15. Bosco again scored the first point in the second set on a kill by Noelle Schumacher. She added another kill to make it 2-1. A block by Perrin made it 3-2. A kill by Waters followed by an ace by Wassmuth gave the Patriots a 5-3 lead. Their final lead of the set came at 7-6 after a kill by Rachel Sonnen. Their final tie of the set came at 8-8 after a missed Rockland serve. Rockland then scored a sideout and added 4 more for an 8-13 lead before Perrin scored on a block for the sideout. Rockland then steadily pulled away to win by 9. In the final set, Chmelik served 2 aces for a 2-0 lead but then Rockland answered with 7 straight points and never trailed again. Water had 11 kills to lead the team and added 2 aces. Perrin had 8 kills, including 2 blocks, plus 2 assists and 2 aces. Chmelik had 5 kills, including a block, 9 assists and 2 aces. Wassmuth had 2 kills, 8 assists and 1 ace. Sonnen had 1 kill and 1 assist. Presley Schoo had 1 kill and 1 ace. Miah Mager had 1 assist. Vs. Genesee In a loser out contest on
Friday morning Bosco had to play Genesee for the fifth time this
season. Unfortunately it was similar to the previous 4 times in that
Genesee came out the winner. Bosco won just 1 set from the Bulldogs in
5 matches.Genesee jumped out to lead of 0-3 and 2-9 in the opening set. Bosco scored their first point when serving on a kill by Waters that made it 5-10 with Wassmuth serving. Bosco got within 5 again when Waters and Chmelik each scored a kill to make it 7-12. Bosco scored just 2 more points in the set, both sideout kills by Chmelik. The second one made it 9-16 and Genesee then scored a sideout and served out the set. Bosco held a brief lead in the second set as back-to-back kills by Perrin made it 2-1. Genesee took back the lead by Bosco tied it on a kill and then a block by Waters to make it 4-4. Genesee took a 4-7 lead but a kill by Waters, an ace by Wassmuth and 2 more kills by Water gave Bosco another brief lead at 8-7. After a Genesee timeout, the Bulldogs scored 4 straight points to take the lead for good. The rest of the set the Patriots were able to score several sideouts but their only service points came on an ace by Sonnen and a tip by Perrin as Genesee closed out the set. In the final set the Bulldogs took leads of 0-3 and 1-6. At 3-8, Wassmuth won a joust at the net and Perrin then served 4 straight to tie the score. She had 2 aces while Waters added 2 kills. Genesee scored a sideout but Waters answered with a sideout kill. Genesee then took the lead for good and went up 10-13. A kill each by Waters and Perrin cut the lead to 12-13. Bosco got within 1 three more times at 13-14, 14-15 and 16-17. A missed serve was followed by 2 aces by Genesee for a 4-point lead. Waters and Chmelik each scored a sideout kill to get the Patriots back within 3 at 17-20 and 18-21 but Genesee then scored the final 4 points of the match to end the Patriots’ season. Waters had 14 kills, including a block. Perrin had 7 kills and 2 aces. Chmelik had 6 kills and 13 assists. Wassmuth had 4 kills, 12 assists and 1 ace. Sonnen had 1 kill, 2 assists and 2 aces. Schoo had 1 ace. The Patriots end their season with a record of 11-12 and tied with Carey for 7th place at State. Julia Wassmuth spikes the ball against Rockland at State.
