Pirates
split at Fruitland
The Prairie Boys Basketball team traveled to Fruitland Dec. 26-27 splitting their games there. On Friday a cold-shooting second half led to a 43-45 loss to Fruitland. On Saturday the Pirates came back and drubbed Parma 63-37. In the game Friday against Fruitland coach Jerry Uhling said the Grizzlies threw a triangle and two at Prairie to try and shut down Matt Baerlocher and Tyler Crane. It worked only because the Pirates couldn’t buy a shot from anyone else. He said they had plenty of good looks especially from around the elbows of the free throw lane but nothing would go in as they hit just 18% of their second half shots. On Saturday Matt Baerlocher scored 20 points with Crane adding 14 and Jacob Riener 12 as the Pirates took a 16-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and led 39-17 at the half. They extended the lead to 53-21 after 3 quarters and then coasted through the fourth quarter. Chad Arnzen was unavailable for the action. No stats were available for the Fruitland game. Against Parma Jacob Nuxoll came off the bench to score 8 points while Jake Chaffee scored 5 and Brent Frei and Mat Forsmann 2 each. Crane had four 3-pointers in the game while Baerlocher had a pair. The JV team also participated but no results were available.
