Pirates edge Lapwai
In their first actual varsity home game of the season the Prairie Lady Pirates edge Lapwai 4-3 Thursday, April 22. Prairie tallied single runs in the second third and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead only to have Lapwai tie it up with 3 unearned runs in the fifth. Prairie got the winning run in the bottom of the fifth without benefit of a hit when Maureen Tacke walked, stole second, stole third and scored on a fielder’s choice. Neither team hit the ball well in the game as there were just 3 hits each. Kayla Holthaus had a double for the game’s only extra-base hit while Lacey Wargi and Meghan VanderPas had Prairie’s other two hits. Holthaus pitched for the Pirates. With the win Prairie improves to 6-2 in league play and 8-7 overall. The game scores were 6-2 in the opener and 3-0 in the second game. No further details were available. With the losses Prairie is now 8-9 on the season.
