Late update: The Prairie baseball team beat Potlatch 10-1 Thursday to earn a trip to state next week. Also the Prairie softball team defeated Kamiah 14-4 and Grangeville 4-2 to clinch a state berth and advance to the District championship game against Orofino at about 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 14.

School elections are Tuesday, Levy info from the board
Tuesday, May 18 will be the school elections with the entire district voting on a proposed $263,000 override levy and the patrons of trustee zone #4 voting for their school board representative. . . .
The School Board, in a special meeting, proposed a levy to cut the school budget by $112,000 in order to keep the override levy at the same level as last year.  This will mean cuts of 1 1/2 teachers, and a 20% reduction in the supplies, materials and textbook budgets of all three schools and the district office. . . .

Prairie High School students of the month for May are Tyler Crane, outstanding student, and Vanessa Sonnen, honor student. 

May's attendance winners of lunch with the principal at Prairie Elementary are Daniel Leonard and Stellina Laurino.

Mrs. Judy Arnzen's third grade class and the baby chicks they hatched in their room this past week. This is a popular, annual project for Mrs. Arnzen's class.

Jeanette Gorman (l), Community Relations Coordinator, St. Mary's Hospital & Clearwater Valley Hospital, explains to Loy Mechling, ICI-O, that the physicians, hospitals and their clinics have signed contracts as Preferred Providers Organizations (PPO) with Blue Cross.  They also participate in the Blue Cross traditional plan.  Gorman attended the employee Health and Benefit Fairs held at the correctional institutions in Cottonwood and Orofino.  Lab personnel also provided free screens for cholesterol, blood glucose, iron, liver and kidney function. 

Marilyn Becker, second from left, was honored by St. Mary's Hospital last week for 40 years of service as a general and surgery nurse. She is shown with several members of her family, from left daughter Deborrah Rose, son Keith Becker and daughter Michelle Schaeffr with her husband Scott.
