Elementary receives grant from Wells Fargo Bank
Prairie Elementary School in Cottonwood has been selected as a winner of Wells Fargo’s Grant a Wish for Your School program. The school was awarded a $500 grant to purchase “literacy bags” for its first grade students. 
“I believe that the school/home connection is a crucial part of a child’s success in school,” said Cindy Schumacher, first-grade teacher, in her grant application. “One of the most important jobs I have is to help the students in my class become life-long learners and life-long readers. These literacy bags will greatly enhance my school/home connection and will be available for my current students as well as for all future students that I have the privilege of teaching.” The literacy bags come in a variety of themes that correspond to first-grade curriculum including science, social studies, health and special interests. Each bag comes with a book and materials to enrich the reading of the book such as puppets and other manipulators. Students can check the bags out to share with their families at home. Wells Fargo’s Grant a Wish program invited Idaho Region teachers and their classes to submit requests for financial support for books or supplies, educational field trips, technological needs, and other educational resources in an effort to promote Wells Fargo’s financial literacy program Hands on BankingSM. Each application had to include the Hands on Banking budgeting worksheet for its grade level to describe its budgeting needs for the proposed project. More than 30 applications were received and reviewed by a panel of community volunteers. Nine $500 grants were awarded.
