Lady Pirates finish fourth
For the second straight season Prairie couldn’t get past Genesee in the third place game and wound up fourth at the District Tournament.
They were dropped into the loser’s bracket with a 27-43 loss to Kendrick on Tuesday, Feb. 7. They reached the third place game by beating Troy 50-36 on Friday, Feb. 10 and then lost to Genesee 39-46 on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Vs. Kendrick
Against Kendrick Prairie started well as they jumped out to 6-2 and 8-4 leads in the first quarter. The problem was that Brittny Behler was doing all the scoring and when she cooled off, the Pirates couldn’t find any offense anywhere else.Natalie Arnzen battles Kendrick's Jamie Scott for the ball.
Behler took 11 shots in the first quarter with Natalie Arnzen taking the only other shot.
After Arnzen’s 10 footer from the baseline with 2:58 left in the first quarter, Prairie went stone cold as Kendrick scored the next 15 points to take an 8-19 lead.
Behler finally broke the drought with a basket with 43 seconds left in the half.
In the third quarter Kendrick continually pounded the ball inside to Jamie Scott who scored 9 points in the quarter, equaling Prairie’s output as a team.
Scott added 6 more points in the fourth quarter as Kendrick never led by less than 12.
Behler wound up with 17 points in the game to lead Prairie with Arnzen scoring 5, Tiffany Schaeffer 3 and Nicole Nida 2.
Kendrick held a 29-32 rebounding edge with Behler collecting 13 rebounds to lead Prairie.
Prairie was 11 for 46 from the field, 24%, and 4 for 8 at the line. Kendrick was 16 for 40 from the field, 40%, and 8 for 10 at the line.

Vs. Troy
In an elimination game against Troy the Trojans kept the game close in the first half by making the most of their scoring opportunities.
Brittny Behler drives past a Troy defender.Prairie was cold from the field in the first quarter as they hit just 4 of 15 shots from the field. Troy meanwhile attempted just 5 shots but made 4 of them as the score was tied at 9-9 after 8 minutes.
Troy scored first in the second quarter but Prairie took the lead on a 3-pointer by Schaeffer and a basket by Behler.
A Troy 3-pointer tied it but a lay-up by Arnzen and a perimeter shot by Ashley Jackson put Prairie up 18-14.
Troy cut the lead to 1 with a basket and a free throw but a steal and drive for a lay-up by Behler made it 20-17. Another Troy free throw cut the lead to 20-18 at the half.
Schaeffer opened the scoring in the third quarter but Troy hit a pair of 3-pointers to take a 22-24 lead. 
Enneking scored a lay-up to tie the score then Jackson connected on a 3-pointer from the top of the key to put Prairie up by 3.Natalie Arnzen grabs a rebound.
A basket each by Schaeffer, Enneking and Behler made it a 9-point advantage and Prairie had taken control of the game.
Free throw shooting helped Prairie seal the win in the fourth quarter as they hit 9 of 11 from the line in the quarter.
Prairie got a lot more diversified scoring in the game as Arnzen led with 11 points. Schaeffer scored 9, Enneking, Jackson and Behler 7 each, Tabitha Sonnen 6, Mandy Geis 2 and Meghan VanderPas 1.
Prairie also dominated the boards 38-21 led by Arnzen who had 11 rebounds. Schaeffer had 8 and Behler had 7.
Behler had 5 steals and Enneking had 4. Jackson, Nida, Arnzen and Schaeffer had 2 assists each.
Prairie was 19 for 50 from the field, 38%, and 10 for 17 from the line. Troy was 13 for 35 from the field, 37%, and 5 for 12 from the line.

Vs. Genesee
In the third place game against Genesee Prairie started off ice-cold.
Behler started the game’s scoring with a lay-up but Prairie then went over 7 minutes without scoring as Genesee built a 2-9 lead.
Arnzen scored a putback with 8 seconds left in the quarter to cut the lead to 4-9.
In the second quarter Genesee pushed the lead to 9 at 4-13 and 6-15. 
Prairie cut the lead to 4 at 11-15 on a free throw by Arnzen and a basket and 2 free throws by Behler.

Prairie came out determined to keep their season alive as they outscored Genesee 10-2 in the first 4 minutes of the third  quarter.
Bridget Enneking started the scoring with a lay-up then Behler hit 4 straight baskets on a turnaround jumper, a lay-up, a short jumper after a step-around move and a putback that cut the lead to 3 at 22-25.
Genesee responded with a basket and free throw but Nida cut the lead back to 3 with a 3-pointer.
Genesee pushed the lead back to 7 at 27-34 but Schaeffer bombed in a 3-pointer from 22 feet at the buzzer to cut the lead to 30-34.
A driving lay-up by Enneking cut the lead to 2. Genesee answered with a free throw. 
Arnzen then cut the lead to 34-35 with a pair of free throws.
Genesee answered with 2 free throws by Lisa Davis.
Two more free throws by Arnzen cut the lead back to 1 and Behler tied the game with a free throw but missed the second.Bridget Enneking lines up a shot against Genesee.
With 3:45 to play Sonnen was fouled and converted both free throws to give Prairie their first lead since 2-0 at 39-37.
That was it for Prairie though as they went scoreless the rest of the game while Genesee scored the final 9 points, 5 of those from the line.
Genesee’s Kelsie Gartner repeatedly killed Prairie with lay-ups as she was 8 for 8 from the field, all on lay-ups and mostly on press breaks.
Prairie managed to force Genesee into 30 turnovers in the game including 17 in the second half, but too many times couldn’t take advantage. They were also hurt by a 1 for 10 shooting performance in the fourth quarter, missing their final 9 shot attempts of the game.
Behler wound up with 16 points to lead the Pirates with Arnzen scoring 10, Enneking 4 and Schaeffer, Sonnen and Nida 3 each.
Genesee held a 23-34 rebounding edge, 3-12 in the fourth quarter. Arnzen led Prairie with 9 rebounds while Behler had 8.
Behler had 7 steals and Arnzen 3. 5 different players had 1 assist each.
Prairie was 11 for 46 from the field, 24%, and 16 for 24 at the line. Genesee was 16 for 31 from the field, 52%, and 13 for 17 at the line. Davis was 7 for 8 at the line in the fourth quarter.
With the loss Prairie ends their season at 18-6.
