Penny Drive raises over $600
By Adeline Lustig
Prairie High School Student Body President
Over the last three weeks, March 6-24th, the Prairie High School participated in a penny drive to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  The society’s mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.  The students at Prairie High wanted a chance to give their support to cancer research, especially to this society because of students and kids they know who have or had either cancer.  They have worked hard to raise the money, and over the last three weeks the student body has raised $632.62.

Book and Blanket drive
The Prairie High School chapter of the National Honor Society is currently seeking a helping hand from the public for a community service project entitled “Book and Blanket.”  The project is designed to provide a new children’s book along with a blanket to newborns born at St. Mary’s Hospital.  The goal of the project is to collect around 75 books and blankets to newborns to give the newborns a jumpstart on reading so that hopefully in the future, they will enjoy reading and excel at it.  The National Honor Society, along with countless children and families would appreciate your donation of a new children’s book or blanket to this project.  If you are interested in donating, please contact Patty Hinkelman, Advisor at e-mail hinkelman@sd242.k12.id.us.
In addition to the “Book and Blanket” drive, the Honor Society will begin reformatting some of the pictures in the upstairs hallway of the high school, to preserve our school’s history.
