attend 4-H KYG Conference
More than 160 Idaho 4-H members heard from the state’s top leaders during the 17th annual Know Your Government Conference (KYG) held in Boise February 18th to 20th during the Presidents Day Holiday. The Idaho County 4-H Program sent ten delegates to the conference this year. Katrina Baune, daughter of Mark & Tracy Baune, Katie Nuxoll, daughter of Don & Wanda Nuxoll, and Bailey Schwartz, daughter of Danny & Dixie Schwartz attended the conference as second year delegates. Attending as first year delegates were Carly Behler, daughter of Rod & June Behler, Kendra Evans, daughter of Keith & Kristi Evans, Laura Gehring, daughter of Tom & Judy Gehring, Kara Guyer, daughter of Lynn & Sue Guyer, Eric Johnston, son for Jerry and Peg Johnston, Danielle Reuter, daughter of Ty & Shannon Reuter, and Camille Tosten, daughter of Joe & Michelle Tosten. Each delegate received financial assistance to attend the conference from the Idaho County Extension Homemakers Council. Eric Johnston received a full scholarship to attend the conference as the winner of the Pete Stuck Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship, given in the name of long-time Grangeville resident and community volunteer, Pete Stuck, is sponsored by the McCarthy Family Foundation. This year’s essay topic was “The 4th Amendment”. Eric’s essay was chosen was the winning entry. The 4-H members learned about how government works in the executive, legislative and judicial branches, receiving hands-on experiences. Delegates attended legislative workshops, toured the Statehouse, held mock committee meetings, debated bills before the Legislature and watched legislators at work. Delegates also toured the Idaho Supreme Court and participated in a mock trial. Katrina Baune was one of 12 delegates from across the state selected to be a member of the 2007 Planning Committee. As a member of the Planning Committee Baune will help plan, promote and conduct the 2007 Know Your Government Conference. Know Your Government is a statewide program of UI Extension and the State 4-H Office. The event is held annually during the Presidents Day weekend.
