music ends on a high note
The students in the Prairie Middle School program have ended the year on a high note. On Wednesday, May 17, the 6th grade Band traveled to LCSC to perform at the District II Elementary Music Festival. The band was evaluated on their overall performance and then given a 30 minute clinic from the judges. No ratings are given at the Elementary level. Prairie was one of the few schools to perform with timpani and so percussion students were treated to an extra session with the percussion judge. On Friday, May 19, the Junior High Band traveled to Coeur d’Alene High School to compete at the Music in the Parks Festival in connection with Silverwood theme park. The students performed early in the morning and then spent the afternoon at Silverwood, getting to take in the rides and amusements. At 4 p.m., awards were presented, including Prairie Junior High Band receiving the first place trophy for Middle School bands with 750 or less population in their school building. Finally, on Monday, May 22, the entire school put on the final performance for the Spring in the Middle School gym. All three bands, 5th, 6th and 7/8, along with 5th and 6th grade music classes performed for their parents and community to demonstrate what they’ve been working on for the last four months.
