Denise and Jim Poxleitner of Cottonwood and Carla and Will Knezvich of Spokane recently attended a reception in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to honor Cindy Perry of Post Falls as the Idaho State School Nurse of the year. Cindy began her career in 1971 as an LPN, graduating from Lewis-Clark State College. She attended North Idaho College to earn her associate’s degree, then received her bachelor’s degree in 1997 from Lewis-Clark State College-Coeur d’Alene. She started in school nursing in 1998, and up until this year, rotated among most of the schools in the Coeur d’Alene district. Now her “home” school is Woodland Middle School. The only nurse in the district for many years, she now has five other nurses and seven certified nurse’s assistants under her lead. She is employed by Kootenai Medical Center which has a unique partnership with the school district. Perry is also on the governor’s council for adolescent pregnancy prevention, and she is currently the president of School Nurses of Idaho. She also serves as the School Nurses of Idaho representative for action for healthy kids of Idaho. Cindy graduated from St. Gertrude’s Academy at Cottonwood in 1970. She is the daughter of the late Dorothy and Willie Kaschmitter. Her brothers are Mike Kaschmitter and Kevin Kaschmitter of Cottonwood, and her sisters are Denise Poxleitner of Cottonwood and Shelley Milionis of Culdesac. |
