Splash, Pedal and Dash Triathlon scheduled
Grangeville Physical Therapy will sponsor the first annual Camas Prairie Splash, Pedal and Dash triathlon race on Saturday, August 12 in Grangeville.  The race will include an adult division age 15 and older and three youth divisions, age 6-8, 9-11 and 12-14.  The triathlon will consist of a swim in the Grangeville City Pool, a bike ride and a run.  Adult and youth divisions will have staggered start times, but all events will start at 7:30 am.Gary McEwen practicing on his bike.
“One of the goals of the race is to emphasize the importance of physical fitness for all ages.  It will be challenging for the youth, but as parents, if we are concerned about our children developing a sedentary lifestyle, we need to offer them alternative activities.  That’s why we have included a youth division,” said Gary McEwen, PT, Race Coordinator.  “Swimming, biking and running can be life time sports.  If we become actively involved at an early age we can reap the health benefits now and later in life.”
The adult division will entail a 250 yard swim, an 8 mile bike ride and a 2 mile run/walk.  The youth division will include all three legs, but the distances will vary depending on the age group.  If an individual feels they are not physically prepared for all three events they can form a 2 or 3 person team.  “It will be a challenge, but I think people will be surprised at what they can accomplish with this race.  I really want this event to be a success for the youth and let them know that although fitness can be challenging it can also be fun.” said McEwen.
Groaners Fitness will sponsor the event with Grangeville Physical Therapy. As part of the sponsorship, Julie Hauger’s daughter Christine Knight will be providing an inservice on training and preparing for triathlon racing on Wednesday, July 5th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Groaners Gym, 505 West Main Street, Grangeville.  No pre registration is necessary.
“As the race date draws closer we’ll advertise the course, entry fees and more details, but we wanted to get the word out early so people could schedule the race on their calendar and begin preparing for it,” said McEwen.  “We are having the T-shirts designed right now and we’re gathering race sponsorships and prizes.”
Proceeds from the entry fee will benefit the newly formed Grangeville Youth Football League for fifth and sixth grade students.
