split with Lewiston
The Camas Prairie Zephyrs Senior Babe Ruth team split a pair of one-run games against Lewiston Friday, July 14. They lost the first game 9-8 but came back to win the second game 10-9. The opening game wound up a lot closer than it was for most of the game. The Zephyrs trailed 2-9 going into the seventh inning. They rallied for 6 runs only to fall short by 1. Gene Fogleman pitched allowing 6 hits with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. Jason Seloske and Aaron Bruening had 2 hits each while C.J. Rieman and Wade Peterson each had a double and Fogleman, Stephen Key and Justin Johnson each had a single. In the second game Johnson pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed 5 hits with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Rieman pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed just 1 hit with 3 strikeouts and no walks. Fogleman and Bruening had 2 hits each while Johnson, Peterson and Phil Henry had 1 hit each. The Zephyrs will be defending their state title this coming weekend at Church Field in Lewiston. The tournament format will be pool play and will start Friday, July 21. The Zephyrs’ first game will be at 1 p.m. against Nampa and then they will play Moscow at 4 p.m. They’ll face Lewiston at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Wins and losses in pool play will determine the Saturday afternoon matchups. The 1st place team will advance to regional competition in Calgary, Alberta the following week.
