14th Annual Raspberry Festival Features Food, Fun and Lots of Raspberry Shortcake
Calling all raspberry lovers! Can you help us eat 936 heaping pieces of raspberry shortcake? Escape the summer heat and give your sweet tooth a treat at our 14th annual Raspberry Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6, on the grounds of the historic Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood. Sister Wilma Schlangen (who is 90 years young) is in the monastery's raspberry patch by 5:30 a.m. to pick juicy berries in the weeks before the annual Raspberry Festival.
This annual fundraiser for The Historical Museum at St. Gertrude includes a 10K Fun Run/5K Cake Walk (7 a.m. registration; 8 a.m. race), Cowboy Breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., all-day Arts & Crafts Festival, live music by the Old Time Fiddlers and Mary Kaye Jungert, Classic Car Show n’ Shine and motorcycle show, Bertha Kopczynski Quilt Show, Whistler Extraordinaire June Huckleberry, folk art demonstrations, book sale, tours of the monastery’s historic chapel, a $500 cash raffle and more!
Raspberry Festival preparations have been under way for weeks with volunteers picking raspberries in the monastery patch at dawn most mornings and working long hours in the monastery bakery, whipping up 78 angel food cakes just for the occasion.
So bring your family along to enjoy BBQ beef sandwiches and all things raspberry, including fresh raspberry shortcake, homemade raspberry jam, mustard, vinegar, tea, lemonade, craft products and gifts.
All proceeds from the Raspberry Festival will benefit The Historical Museum at St. Gertrude, which is celebrating 75 years of preserving the past for the future.
