out for volleyball
The Prairie High School volleyball team has 36 players who have turned out for the team this year. The team has a new head coach in Jeff Martin who moved here from Culdesac. Prairie softball fans remember Martin as the coach of the Culdesac softball team that beat them in the state championship game each of the past two years. 
Martin said he was nervous going into the first practice but said it’s been great so far. He mentioned the great support from assistant coaches Vikki Duman and Marlene Forsmann. This year’s varsity team features a lot of new faces in the starting lineup as last year’s team was senior oriented. Seniors on this year’s varsity team are Kylie Uhlorn, Randi Schumacher, Nicole Nida, Charlene Duman, Shandrie Poxleitner, Carolyn Sonnen and Tabitha Sonnen. Juniors are Tessica Nuxoll, Brooke Holthaus, Sarah Arnzen, Gina Holthaus, Alli Holthaus and Kim Schaeffer. Another junior, who was a starter last year, Tiffany Schaeffer, will miss the entire season due to surgery. The JV team features junior Chantel Boniecki and sophomores Kaylee Uhlenkott, Rachel Kaschmitter, Chelsea Long, Samantha Johnson, Leora Laurino, Jennifer Enneking and Beth Geis and freshman Samantha Frei. On the C team are junior Casandra Schaeffer, sophomores Carly Behler, Brittney Gehring, Laura Gehring and Camille Schumacher and freshmen Nataiva Klinkefus, Hilaree VanderPas, Kelsey Marker, Samantha Spencer, Casey Bruegeman, Justina Zigler, Gina Seubert, Amber Frei and Kristin Hill. The team will see their first action in a Jamboree at Grangeville on Thursday, August 24. Their first regular season action is at the Lewiston Tournament on Saturday, August 26.
