Food Bank changes location
The St. Mary’s Hospital Food Bank recently changed locations. They are now located at 402 Main Street in the Bott and Associates Office. Krystyne Bahlman, SMH employee, will help coordinate the food bank efforts together with other community volunteers. Their efforts are included in the activities of the hospital’s Mission Committee. The food bank collects food items and disburses them to anyone in need within the School District 242 boundaries. Anyone in need of food can contact Bahlman during business hours on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at SMHC, 962-3251. Appointments can be made to meet a volunteer at the food bank and pick up the food on those days. “Although we’re trying to limit the area we serve to the school district boundaries, we would never turn away anyone who was truly in need. We’ll first see if there is some other place we can refer them that is closer to their home,” said Bahlman. “In the past I had to use a food bank in another area, so I understand the importance of being treated with respect and with fairness, in addition to honoring a family’s confidentiality. I’m volunteering my time to work with the food bank because I know the importance of having something in the community like this. It’s my way of giving back.” Bahlman will be working with a number of other volunteers who will help gather the food, stock the shelves, purchase additional supplies and prepare the food boxes. Anyone who would like to donate food can drop it off at the hospital’s front desk and we’ll make sure it gets to the food bank. We’re primarily interested in non perishable food items, although we do have a small freezer and can take some frozen items, said Bahlman. Financial donations will also be accepted. Checks can be made out to St. Mary’s Hospital Food Bank and dropped off at SMH or mailed to PO Box 137, Cottonwood, Idaho 83522. Contributions will be used to purchase additional food or special items for families in need. |
