Arnoti
to hold book signings
Local author, former mayor and long-time resident of Cottonwood, Ladd C. Arnoti, will sign copies of his new book on Monday, Dec. 18, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., at The Country Haus Restaurant in Cottonwood and on Friday, Dec. 22, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., at The Historical Museum at St. Gertrude. Darkness of War, Dawn of Hope: The World War II Memoirs of a Young Man in Europe is the gripping story of an incredible journey, a child's nearly overnight transition into adulthood, with no stops along the way for a normal adolescence. Caught in the chaos of World War II Hungary, the Russians closing in from one direction and the escape route blocked by hostile nearly-defeated Nazi troops, Ladd is involved in air raids, rescue operations, constant concern for his mother and brothers, all the while trying to continue his schooling. He finds a way to evacuate himself and his mother, but the trip is harrowing. There is a happy ending—emigration to Cottonwood, Idaho in 1950. |
